We've all been in the front row for small standing-room-only type venues, but what about a 15K+ arena show? If so, how did you get the tickets? Scalper? How much did you pay for them? Was it worth it?

Closest I've ever got was 2nd row at a Sting concert in high school. (Wish it had been The Police instead) He did play a bunch of Police songs acoustically for the encore, so that was pretty cool. And Branford Marsalis did waive at me at one point.

I was front row when the Smashing Pumpkins and Garbage played at the Summit back in December of '96.

I got them by lining up several hours early at Randall's, which was my go-to Ticketmaster location back then. First in line and ended up with 1st row seats :) .

A friend of mine won a pair of tickets (from KLOL, I think) and had a second pair that he had purchased to The GNR shows at the Summit in January 9 & 10, 1992. We got to see both nights. The first night was front row and the second night was nosebleeds.

It was cool to see both shows from a different vantage point. The front row night was all about watching Slash when he was playing right in front of me and the second night was watching Axel run like a madman all over the stage. The Chronicle said Soundgargen sucked, but I recall liking them.

I got 1st row, dead-center tickets to the Sugarland concert at BBVA.

I got them because I was a Dynamo season ticket holder.

    Unfortunately the concert was cancelled.

GA tickets for a big arena show or festival, get there early. rush the rail as soon as the gates open. hold it down until showtime. I did this like ten times to see the Beastie Boys. you had to sit through opening sets and even bigger acts like Green Day if you wanted to get the best spot on the rail... it is a grueling half day process but worth it.

my best seated tickets were 5th row Pink Floyd in '94

Front row center to watch Roger Daltrey perform Tommy (as well as other songs) last year at Target Center in Minneapolis. I got them because I paid for them. :)

    Tell that to my checkbook.

Would've been nice to flip them in order to pay off the cost of my season tix.

I'm just afraid their stage wouldn't hold up.

I was front row for a Tool concert once. Also was near front row for a Rage concert. Both in late 90's in Philadelphia where the Sixers play. Fun.

Yeah, those were the days. I camped out overnight for a Rush concert back in the 80's but their computer went out for 20 minutes right when the tickets went on sale so we still ended up in the upper prom.

I'm just wondering how you pull it off nowadays with the internet, etc. I logged in for Police tickets the second they went on sale and still ended up with nosebleeds. I guess nowadays you have to be in some kind of club or pay a ticket broker? Or it has to be a concert that's not really in high demand?

1st row center for Little Feat in the Sam Houston Coliseum, New Years Eve 1978-1979. My brother somehow scored the tickets.

It was Little Feat's last show in Texas with Lowell George. He passed away about 5 months later if I recall correctly.

Great show. 3 of the oldtime KLOL disc jockeys, including Crash, were sitting right behind us.

Front row for Tool and once for Depeche Mode. Was fun back when I was younger, but you really can't feel the whole concert experience as you can't see most of the stage and you cannot see any lazers pew pew pew.

Do they still have Ticketmaster retail locations? I know they did 4-5 years ago, but I'm not sure if that is still the case. As you said though, a lot of the really good tickets now go as part of pre-sales.

Some of my best memories from high school were lining up with friends at the crack of dawn to get tickets.

You really need to be in the fan clubs of particular bands to get front row seats this days. Its part of VIP packages that you are guaranteed tickets in the first 5 rows.

I can safely say I have had better than first row at an arena show.

Ive seen several shows from behind the barricade in front of the stage.

Best I ever did was at the Erwin Center for the Neil Young/ Dinosaur Jr. show -- snuck down to the 7th row center stage. By pure chance we found 3 seats together and they ended up being the only 3 that the ticket holders didn't claim.
