I didn't want the Rockets to draft him, I'll admit it. I thought he would be a very long- term project (as most people did) and then I wasn't sure how much China would let him play. On the other hand, after a saw a couple of games I changed my mind, even though he didn't do much, and even though he struggled bigtime for the first several games or so.
yeah im a Yao-Only-Fan Hata. especially the dudes that want Yao to succeed and dominate for their racial identity's sake.
for their racial identity's sake? that's uncalled for. many Yao only fan aren't even Chinese. and there's nothing wrong rooting for your own fellow countryman. it's got nothing to do with their racial identity.
I dunno about hater, but I had concerns about his potential for injury with him having to play so much ball during the year and how that sometimes affects guys so tall. His weaknesses last year were glaring though, there should have been haters last year. This year he looks like a totally different player so far. We'll see if he can put up with the rigors of a season better than he did last year when he kind of disappeared for stretches of several games at a time.
I guess there is a common misconception that all the more outspoken Yao's fans on this board are Chinese. It's definitely not true coz I know at least one who's not Chinese.
I'm also a Yao-Only fan hater. Not because of the racial identity thing, but because Yao only fans would rather Yao put up big stats rather than have a Rockets win. They care about a player instead of the team. And in my eyes, there is no player/coach/anyone who is bigger than the team.
I have to agree. I hadn't seen him play at all (just a few vid clips on the net) but I didn't think taking him #1 was prudent because of the fact he was still China's property and he would probably be working year-round, which would wear anyone down. Standing 7'6" would also grind against his knees, giving him a weaker base and greater risks for leg injuries (although looking at his legs are like looking at freaking tree trunks...) I wasn't completely sold on him (although my best friend kept hyping him up for me and saying he was going to make Shaq eat leather...he also said Boki was Peja Stojakovic on crack, so I guess he got 1 of 2 right...) until I saw him. Although he wasn't completely comfortable on the court in the NBA, you could see the fluidity and the potential waiting to bust out.
There should be a MILLIONS replies from these Yao haters if you couldnt lie! One of them is definitely a bbs member named Nyquil!...I am proud to say that I am a Yao believer from the beginning
Never, have I been nor will I ever be a "Yao hater". We're damn lucky to have him!! I'm not a "Yao-Only fan", but I must admit he is my favorite Rocket player.
exactly. i know alot of Yao fans that arent asian. they like him becuase he is a. A Rocket b. a charasmatic guy c. has the potential to win many championships d. most importantly, can stuff Shaq's shots back down his grill. that was uncalled for by whoever said it was fo racial identity
You should reread just what you said:- You dont hate Yao Ming but you hate Orientals. Do you hate Asians as well as they are of at least two different races.
