Have the Celtics died of old age, and if so, can Morey feed on their tasty carrion?

Morey talked about being "predatory" last year, I assume he'll continue to look for opportunities to predate. But there seem to be some good scavening opportunities, too. Specifically, the Celtics are getting old and face an uncertain future. Ray Allen is a FA, KG, Pierce and Wallace are aging but they are all good players still. If Celtics want to move on and build a younger team around Rondo, woudln't it make sense for Morey to go work out a deal with his old boss for one or more of them (with Wallace, assuming he doesn't retire)?

I don't see Pierce leaving his team (and he's the best of them), but Garnett and Wallace would both help in the size department. Despte their age, they are still very capable interior and help defenders which the Rockets lack.

Of course, it would be best to get a younger fresh meat like Bosh, but sometimes you gonna be the vulture or hyena and do whatever it takes to nurish yourself even if the player is a little old and maybe stinky and maggot infested.

A trade for those guys at this point would seem to be a desperation, last push type of move for a team that already championship caliber that needs just a little more to push them over the edge. Like Cleveland or Orlando.

I don't think the Rockets are in enough of a position where all they need is just one last piece of the puzzle.

as much as some posters hate KG, he's exactly what we need in the attitude and leadership department...Rivers did say next year's team is likely going to be a different one, but im not sure if that means rebuilding or tweaking...

That being said, KG's lack of rebounding has me worried...something else is going on, possibly a nagging injury or pain. If he was a FA i'd say go for it if he signs cheap..or if his salary was lower, but at 18 mill? It's suicide.

Wallace is a loose cannon...we dont have the right guys to control him and get the best out of him, similar to what happened with Ron.

I'd say allen is our best shot since its the easiest way for Boston to tweak the team, since he's expiring, but will he back up and for how much?

i think we need more of a perkin's typer player. a large 7 footer who can play tough defense on opposing big men. we don't even REALLY need one who can score, our backcourt can carry that load if needed.

unless we're giving up yao or scola then that guy will be a back up...meaning he's going to get more mins with lowry than brooks/martin...so it owuld be nice for him to be able to score

Didn't we get enough players past their prime and on the verge of retirement with Van Gundy?

Ray Allen as our 6th man that plays in the last minutes of the 4th also, is the only option I see from the Celtics for our team.

to be fair Deck, he didnt have much choice...with CD's brilliant cap management, vet minimums were all we could afford. Anyone wondering why most of us love Morey did not keep up with how bad off the Rockets were cap-wise under Dawson.

I know, but it's the first thing that popped into my head when I read about CH wanting to aquire one of the Celtics that are near the end of their NBA journey. I love how we have a young team now, with a good mix of vets. I'd never consider, at this point in time, getting Allen or Wallace for the MLE. For part of it, sure, but we need size. Look at Garnett's contract. Huge dollars. Look at Wallace's. It's MLE money. Allen we don't need enough to shell out what amounts to double what he would be paid, whatever that might be, and he's the only guy mentioned that is a free agent.

i dont think the celtics are interested in breaking up the team just yet. even if they were, im not sure the rockets are in win-now mode. maybe if they knew that yao would be back to mvp form, then they would cash in future assets for immediate gains.

since yao is a question mark, the direction of the team is in limbo. if yao doesn't regain his old form the rockets will face rebuilding. if that's the case then you certainly don't want to do that by trading for kevin garnett.

Why would Boston go into fire sale mode? They were one win away from a championship and playing without their starting center. They can upgrade in a few key spots, but I don't think their team will look much different next year, save for possibly SG.

KG is kind of pricey, but he's only signed for 2 more years, so if Yao doesn't work, he won't hold up rebuildng long. In fact, if things don't work out next season, you can probably make some use of his expiring contract in the season right after that (like we did with McGrady).

Wallace is only signed to the MLE for 2 more years and is someone the Rockets thought about signing with the MLE before learning Yao was out for the season. If he's willing to come back, I really would not mind having him as a backup 4/5 since he plays good post D and is not a total stiff on the other end.

r2k, the rockets still have cap problems. CD couldve used the mle and small vet contracts. Morey only has the same thing except he's scraping the lux tax. The celts will try to tweak, but they did what they were designed to do and thats win now. They could be better off by reducing kg's workload and replacing allen with the mle player. They can slide pierce to the 2 and get a sf. Draft one of the talented bigs in this draft.
