This thread is honoring a buddy of mine who messaged me asking:
"how many remote controls do you have?"

The conversation turned into: "Does your wife not know how to turn on the TV or the DirecTV receiver or the Surround Sound or the DVD/VCR or the HD receiver? Mine just called me to ask me how to. :( " One of my answers was: "No, mine prefers just watching regular tv instead of turning on the HD receiver and the surround sound" :(

SO... if I had the chance, I would have accompanied this thread with a poll: How many remote controls do you have? I have 6: DirecTV, HDTV Receiver, DVD/VCR, surround sound, TV, PC TV Card.

Also, have you been able to combine ALL OF THEM with a so-called "Universal Remote Control" (which we all know does NOT exist)??

Lastly, how can I get my wife to successfully learn to use ALL the remotes to watch what she wants?

Well, the hairstyles kinda sucked, but other than that, it was a pretty cool show...

When my remote control doesn't work, I hit it around for a little bit. Then it works.

    Let her graduate highschool. :p

Anywho, yes a universal remote DOES exist. And it comes with a full Sony home entertainment set-up... and/or you can buy one at a high end store (Magnolia or Starpower -formerly Home Theatre Store).

    Ha. I expected that one, A-Train. :D

Iroc It, there is NO Universal remote that can control my HDTV receiver (HiSense DB-2010 for USDigital). I haven't found ONE remote that contains a code for that remote.

I don't remember that high school class "Programming the Remote Control", BTW. ;)

The problem is that there are too many inputs on the TV and too many channel-changing remotes in the house. It's easy to match component with remote, but I think it's a "patience" thing. She doesn't have it.

Ok, I just checked my remote control's website/update program. It supports the Hisense DB-2010 apparently.

Dr of Dunk, Here's my HDTV (hoochiemama tv or whatever) Receiver:
http://i21.ebayimg.com/02/i/02/ab/04/6e_1_b.JPG (http://www.hisense.com/en/products/tv_detail.jsp?pcat_id=01&pcat_name=TV&pro_id=01-20041008174139) - Wal-Mart sold it for 199 bucks, eBay had it a few times on auctions. Can you please see if your remote control can input its code? It's a DB2010 or DB-2010 from HiSense.

EDIT: Thanks. Do you think the lower end remote controls Logitech puts out will support all the same codes?

Has anybody been able to program all of your components with the white DirecTV control?

    *EDIT* :

Dunno about the lower end ones. One of the reasons I liked this one was I could always download new stuff if I bought new equipment. Check their site and see ... or better yet, just email their sales or tech support people.

Their model 659 also downloads updates via WWW from the looks of it, so I would think it could support it. You can get it for around $85-$90 on amazon from the looks of it. But I'd ask Logitech/Harmony support first.

    I have seven remote controls..

..and seven remote controls to remotely control those remote controls. I also have a remote control to alert the morgue when I finally drown in my own lard on the couch :p

I've got one of those Logitech remotes. It's cool for day to day use, but if I want to get into any of the menus I tend to go to the individual component's remote. I recommend the Logitech if you don't mind blowing $200+ on a remote. Oh yeah, it also looks cool.

So you bought a remote to turn everything on, but use the other remotes to actually do anything? lol.

FYI : I use my remote for everything I need to do on my home theater... I know... weird. :D

I have three remotes that I use. A TIVO remote for 95% of my TV usage, a DVD remote for when I watch DVDs and the only reason I use my receiver remote is to switch from Video 1 (Sattelite) to Video 2 (DVD). Actually since I have to walk to the entertainment center to insert a DVD I usually just change from Video 1 to Video 2 manually.

If you are looking for a Universal Remote, the Harmony remotes are very popular, however, you could go to a Proton which is pretty much totally programable. Even the User Intereface on the LCD screen can be whatever you want it to be.

Check out Remote Central for a run down a ton of remotes.

I loved that show...That chick was hot...I can't remember her name, but I know she was in that movie with Dice (Carrie??)...

I have two universal remotes...A sony commander that works fine...It is just one universal touch screen...Fry's had it on sale for about $87 about 4 months ago...

My newer one is the Logitech Harmony remote...I did research and picked this one as you are able to say, push one buttom and it turns on my TV, Cable box, Receiver, etc...Bad azz... The problem is, my LCD scrolls through the A/V screen and sometimes it doesn't get it and I have to scroll thru to get the right input...Same thing for my Tivo, DVD, etc...Sometimes it misses the Input, but that is a function of the way my A/V is, not the remote...

Other than that I love the one buttom aspect of it...This one cost about $120 on the internet, but well worth it...

    Kari Wuhrer.

She became quite the B-Movie queen after her stint on Remote Control. I don't recall Marisol ever doing anything with her life post-Remote Control.

My only remote control-related problem is that my DVD remote has buttons that are all the same size and arranged in equal rows, making it very difficult to find the button I want in the dark.
