Tomorrow is Juneteenth . . .. Have some Bar B Q Celebrate and be Merry Rocket River and Happy Father's day too
Yes, a very happy Juneteenth to all my ClutchFans friends. I will be BBQing some ribs, chicken and sausage tomorrow, and having a few friends over. Tomorrow evening I will be heading to the Eldorado Ballroom at Dowling and Elgin to hear Ms. Trudy Lynn and Mr. I.J. Gosey play some smokin' Juneteenth blues all night long!
Last Juneteenth I was about 3 inches shy of rearending some guy who slammed on his brakes on the middle of a bridge to holla at some "fine lookin women" walking down the sidewalk towards the festivities. As long as I don't encounter that same guy, I'll be happy.
I would like to wish my good friend TheCat a happy 20th birthday. As for tomorrow, happy 20th to me, and happy birthday to BrianKagy, Happy Juneteenth, and Happy 20th to the rox drafting their greatest player ever. And for The 20th of June, Happy Father's Day (even though I consider no man my father) and Happy 21st birthday to DVauthrin.
It's nearly 3PM on Friday, I had a huge lunch, but I can still already taste tomorrow's barbecue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(a little late, I was at the beach) Way back in the 80's I was a land planner working on Lake Olympia in Missour City. It's a subdivision built on the site of the old Palmer Plantation, a cotton farm on Oyster Creek that had been in the same family's hands since before the Civil War. In researching the history of the plantation we found out that his huge old live oak tree was said to be the tree that the Palmer Plantation slaves gathered to here of the Emancipation Proclimation. In generating the land plan the developer happily agreed to reserve this beautiful tree and the land around it as a small park dedicated to "Juneteenth". It is on the far eastern section of Lake Olympia just north of lake Olympia Parkway. (worth a Juneteenth visit, next year)
