http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5374210 Udonis Haslem is staying with the Miami Heat and Mike Miller is joining him. Haslem signed a five-year deal Monday worth around $20 million, roughly $14 million less than he could have received if he accepted more lucrative offers from the Dallas Mavericks and Denver Nuggets. "This is a combination of having a great opportunity to win, which is why we play this game, and an opportunity to still stay close to my family and be with my mother," said Haslem, whose mother has been ill for some time. "And also, the opportunity to be a part of something special. We all play this game to win. I've never been a person driven by money." Miller's agent, Arn Tellem, confirmed the sharpshooter's intention to sign a five-year free-agent contract with the Heat on his blog Monday.
I would've taken the dolla dolla bill yawl if I was Haslem. He already gots a ring. Still, playing with 2 superstars and a pet raptor is probably once in a lifetime kinda thing I guess.
That team still lacks size. It's time to really start worrying when they get somebody over 6'10 carrying some weight that can play substantial minutes. I don't see a team with Bosh as your tallest player and Lebron as your biggest winning any rings.
i dont know man. im sure they will add a few other guys (bodies) they dont need much. i can see them without injuries knocking on breaking that 72 win barrier from the bulls. lebron goes from playing with a whole team of mike millers and haslems to this. its going to be interesting to watch thats for sure.
72 Wins take team chemistry, which Heat currently don't have. The 1st year, they might not be as dangerous as the 2nd and 3rd years. As of right now, they got 3 players who are used to shooting the ball near 20+ a game, they are going to have to adjust to their role. I don't see them playing any tough defense at this point. Mike Miller fills a 3 point specialist need but lets face it, between Wade, LBJ, Bosh....Miller isn't going to see the ball a lot. UD is playing behind Bosh, who averages 35+ minutes a game..... What they need to pickup is a legit Center who can play 35 minutes because who they currently have won't work. They also need an experienced PG or at least a decent backup one.
well the only thing we can hope on now is that their ego's get in the way of playing team basketball.
You wont see the scoring Lebron anymore, but the Lebron that you saw when he first come in the leauge. He will be Rileys Magic Johnson, since thats how Lebron game was always compared to, before he came in the league. Lebron could easyily average 10 assits a game with Miami.
The hometown ties from 7 years ago is now paying off in a loyalty discount The Redeem Team absolutely wrecked it when they had outside shooters like Michael Redd and Tayshaun Prince spreading the floor. Mike Miller is not only going to offer some of that, but will give them that additional home state Florida Gator morale. Mario Chalmers certainly is not CP3. The only hope is is he has a Rafer-like effect holding them back with bricks. But do they really need him? All he has to do is defend and bring the ball up the court. If they sign Ilgauskas, game over.
I would take Orlando over them only because Miami doesn't have anyone to stop Dwight and even if they do get Big Z, I doubt he's going to be that effective against him.
I don't really get the Miller signing. They needed a three point threat point guard. I'm not sure I understand Miller being in the equation unless Lebron is playing point. Playing behind Wade that free agent money could be spent on a position of need, not a bench player.
Yeah if he dominates the ball, which in turn makes Wade and Bosh ineffective. 2 players who are used to dominating the ball, its going to take some time before 1 of them figure out their roles. Offense isn't the issue. Its defense. All those great teams play great defense or had somebody who anchored the defense. Heat have 2 good perimeter defenders, inside they are weak.
