At least from the point of the media, IMHO. I don't see anyone calling Duncan vs. Shaq 10, Kobe vs AI 15 etc.

    Your opinion?

Check your schedule, EACH YAO vs. Shaq game is either on ESPN, TNT, or ABC.

I bet that they will do that until Shaq retires.:)

    Easily.

Its the only matchup that pits two MEGA stars, who play the same position, are both huge, yet couldn't be more different types of people.

Shaq is the best player in the NBA, has been so since 98, and has never had an "equal" in the NBA since Olajuwon in 95.

To see this now is historic... and nothing compares to it.

Just listen to how the crowd would get all fired up EVERY time Yao or Shaq would have the ball...

that "buzz" is rare... and I have only heard it when Mr. Oneal and Mr. Yao matchup.....

I dont know.. the Kobe vs. Tmac thing was popular for awhile..

I think the media had hype surrounding certain team matchups. but its is unusual to make it 2 players.

Shaq must be pretty steaming mad right now.. I feel sorry for the guy since so many people in the media are talking trash to him right now.

    Oh well good for us..

But I do look forward to the Yao vs. Shaq matchups.

It is for now, but I agree with the analysts from last night who said that the rivalry won't really heat up until the two battle it out in the playoffs.

Of course it's big, when was last time a center out scored Shaq? You probably have to go back to the Hakeem era. Yao is the only center in the league that actually tried to attack Shaq, a new era is coming.

Yes. The NBA and the media are eating it up, which is great for those who don't get all the games on cable.
    (hee, hee!)

And as long as the Fakers get the Rockets to play like this let 'em play 82 games! :p

the NBA sure seems to want to make Lebron and Carmelo the Bird vs. Magic of the millenium but of course, for the public to buy into it, those teams have to start going to the Finals (because they can't meet in the Playoffs).

The reason why it is the Marquee matchup is because Shaq talks so much trash and because it's a battle of BIG MEN. Everyone wants to see a BIG MAN matchup. The latest hyped guard will always be replaced by the next hyped guard every 2-3 years, but a hyped big man has staying power for a good 8-10 years.

The guy Yao is going to have to catch is Duncan. Shaq's done. His knees are clearly giving in.

No question. It is a BIG MAN'S league. It is a CENTER'S league. They are the two best. I dont think any player on player match up is as big!

With out a doubt Yao vs. Shaq is the Marque matchup not only in the NBA but in all of Sports.

With Yao living up to his side of the bargain this year its hard to argue that the match up has lived up to billing. This is the second time that Yao Ming has out played Shaq head to head this year.

but not in terms of skill. I think there is more hype around the LeBron Anthony games. Yao is a great players and I am not taking anything away from their matchups, but Shaq is the marquee player and he alays has something to say, so the media is folling him more than the matchup against Yao.

Yao has out played Shaq in both match ups this year. Yao Ming is still clearly learning the NBA games but he has clearly lived up to the hype in both Shaq vs. Yao match ups this year.

Why do people keep saying that? Yao has not outplayed Shaq.. if anything he has neutralized Shaq's contributions to the team. Outplayed would be a huge discrepency in points/rebs/blks. They are almost even but the Rox came out with the win so I will say Yao's Rockets won the game.

Its more like Yao and Shaq cancelled each other out, which is still un heard off but to say Yao outplayed Shaq is still premature.

When Yao goes for 40pts/20rebs/10blks and limits Shaq to 8 points/ 4 rebs then Yao has really shut him down.

To be honest Yao didnt play better than Shaq had a better game maybe but about equal in terms of stats.
