He's on the team too lol! I was just wondering since I haven't heard anything about it on that front, no comments or anything. Anyone know anything?
Not yet. Yao Ming watched his Shanghai basketball team playing last night but no interview. He would be back to U.S.A. days later.
He's gotta love the thought of being doubled and seeing Martin or Brooks being wide open behind the arc. Next year we could be a 60 win team with a few more key acquisitions and the good health of our big fella. Think about our '3 point lineup'... Yao with Brooks, Martin, Budinger, and Battier... How do you double Yao then?
Still does no good if our coaching staff can't work on a way to still make him effective when he is fronted. Being doubled was never really the problem. Teams don't really double Yao as much as they just prevent him from ever catching the ball. If we can make the entry pass, or spread the floor and then swing the ball to make the backside helper pay by giving up open threes, then it is going to be very fun to watch. But if Yao can be fronted and Ariza doesn't have to be guarded (I don't see how Yao improves his 3 point shooting. It could be Shaq at C and DWight Howard at PF, an open miss is an open miss), we will struggle. I'm excited for tonight's game and opening day will be highly anticipated.
Yao Ming presided over the opening of a 1-week training camp in Shanghai Municipal Sports Bureau this morning (February 20) for selected young players (born after 1995) all over China to pick/select talents to join the junior team of Shanghai MAXXIS Sharks. When reporters approached him and tried to lead him to make comments about the current trade, he just evaded it saying "Today, it is all about my Shanghai team, and I won't entertain any questions about Houston Rockets."
Who knows how Yao might be feeling, I think him and McGrady have been pretty good friends for the past 6 yrs.... <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/yBpMpEF4nmE&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/yBpMpEF4nmE&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> --RB
I doubt any of the Rockets will say anything negative about the trade, the team have all been pretty professional in dealing with the media. They will "It's business," and mention missing the players involved but at the same time, they won't bad mouth the new guys they don't know yet.
