I've noticed Posey is shooting more of a set shot ala Mario Elie from behind the arc instead a true jumper. Do you think he Rice is helping him out? I've been the biggest Posey critic but if he can cosistently hit from behind the arc meaning close to 40% then I think he is our future 3.
He's in our future 3 as long as he agrees to play for a reasonable amount of money. Unfortunately he may see the kind of money that Cato, Mo, and Moochie are making and see dollar signs.
He looked like he changed his form tonight. I went to the Phoenix game early and Posey was shooting practice jumpers with the assistant coach Jim Boylan feeding him the ball. I remember Boyland yelling and criticizing his shooting form even after a make (Shaking his head after his shot when he was shooting it all wrong).
Definite set shot. No jumping. Does he even need to jump? Teams are leaving him WIDE open. Shoot the set shot and if someone comes at you, drive right past him.
I noticed the same thing. He barley jumped off the ground and the form was really nice. Before he would shoot the ball where he would shoot the ball from almost behind the head and just stroke it in. I like his set shot more though, more of an arc and more accurate.
isn't that how rice shoots? with the ball (almost) behind his head on release? living in oz you only get to see SC and the odd game on payTV, so i'm out of "touch" on rice's stroke. i seem to remember (from several years ago) us getting torched by him & the "behind the head" release... or have i got my players confused. could be miner i'm thinking of, cause as i said it was years ago...
Rice brings the ball up as high as his arms extend, then he jumps up as high as his legs will allow him to, and follows through with his wrist. The reason he has such a soft touch, is because he simply has to follow through with his wrists, opposed to gathering all his energy coming up. He's already up in the air before even having to fire the ball, so his energy is already being used, opposed to being generated as he's jumping up while taking his shot. I hope that's not too confusing because that's a personal observation of mine about his jumper. When he can keep his legs from leaning to a side, his jumper is almost always money.
Indeed Boylen has been working with Posey on his shot form. Posey said so in the post-game interview with Bill and Calvin. Posey does not have a bad stroke - look no furthur than his ft% which is above 80%. Therefore it's not unreasonable to believe that he can develop into a pretty good shooter. Here's to Posey's continual shot development. I don't expect him to shoot like he did today, but if he can shoot even half as well as he did today, a lot of things will open up for him.
This Rockets team can be deadly if Posey/Griffin can make 50% of the open shots. Yao down low. Francis drive. Who will you guard?
Horray! I admit that I have been critical of the assistant coaches in the past, good to see them actually making a difference in the players.
Yeah, I'm not convinced.. let's see what he does in the remainder of the games. Re-signing him is still up in the air...
No sh*t... It was nice to see him finally, and I mean finally have his stroke... I've said b/f he's been trying to be like Peja and last night, he was... Keep it up Posey...
Posey isn't out future 3 unless he seriously improves his shooting. And right now, I'm rather inclined to follow the first few years of his career, rather than a couple of games. Especially when you have a true C, a sharp shooting 3 is absolutely essential. Nachbar might be the 3 of the future for Houston, if he ever pans out as hoped. We might pick a different one up. But I highly doubt it's James Posey. He'll have a nice role coming off the bench as a defensive sub/energy guy, though.
Posey shot those set shots because he was wide open and felt hot. Any other game he would've ran in the paint, turned around, and shot a fadeaway.
I disagree. Peja can hit shots set or off-balance, fading away or running in. Posey seems to be only able to hit the set shots. BTW, I wish the assistant coaches worked some more on Griffin's shot.
I noticed the set shot last night. Even Cat shoots a set shot on 3's. I know from my own experience it feels easier shooting a set shot from long distance unless I'm coming off a pick of what not. But back to Posey, he's had his moments as far as shooting goes and as someone stated he does shoot 80% from the line. He just needs to learn how to make his shot/release/etc more consistent. If Nachbar is our future 3 (starting), I'd like to have someone like Posey to come off the bench for energy at the 2 or 3. Maybe he could be our Mario Elie type of player except taller and more athletic, well his D would need to be a notch or 2 higher.
