There was this guy on the BBS last year; I think his handle was EJ081 or something like that. I remember post-season all of his complaining about how the Pacers had gotten screwed by the refs in the East championship series. On and on and on!

Anyway, The Cat sounds like deja vu all over again. Bottom line, Cat, the Pacers got outplayed and outhustled, and most importantly, outcoached. The mental mistakes, both on the floor and on the bench, were almost laughable. I don't like the Lakers either, but geez, they beat the Pacers fair and square, in a game that the Pacers should have won.

"Who Wants To Be A Rocket?" - and probably a millionaire as well. The off-season will be interesting!

What in the heck is the problem with you people? I would never use any other name to post under- this is the only name I have ever in my life posted under here.

Bobby- look at my previous post from the last few months. I LOVE the Knicks, although not as much as the Rockets. I was the happiest person in the world last year when the knocked out the Pacers. I don't even like the Pacers much at all. I just hate LA.

Well, my friend, all I can say is I feel your pain. As a long-time poster on this BBS and as other long-time posters can tell you, I used to live there from 1986-1998. I almost got killed in the Forum during the 1st round of the 1996 playoffs when I took offense to a bunch of Cedric Ceballos jersey-wearing gangbangers chanting "Houston Sucks". And now I'm depressed because I found out I might have to go back there for a weekend in September for a wedding. You hate LA?? Try living there!! [IMG]

Tex- I know what you mean. It was just a vacation, but I went to LA a couple of years ago. I could not stand it. The people, the lifestyle, everything I just hated. I feel sorry for you having to live there.

I've been in LA for 3 years. I work in Santa Monica and I live in Koreatown. I got used to it. The thing I hate the most about Californians in general and LA in particular is that the locals assume that everyone thinks this is the greatest place in the world, which is silly, because if it was, it would be in Texas.

After being here a few years and seeing plenty of the place, there is plenty to like, but I came to terms with the fact that I'll be a Texan all my life (corny or not it's just the truth) no matter where I live.

I hate the Lakers more than Cat. I feel your pain Cat, I post rarely, but most of them are often rants against the Lakers too, and just as volatile. I live one mile from the Staples Center, and all the local bars are full of Laker fans that weren't here the past few. Sure, I've met some diehard Lakers fans that cheered through some rough times , but for the most part sports fans here are as fair weather as they come and let's just say the B-ball IQ is miserably low.

The only sports team with a true loyal following here is the Galaxy. And Galaxy fans are mostly immigrants from El Salvador and Mexico. The Galaxy's biggest stars are (no coincidence) from El Salvador and Mexcio. Other than when the Rockets/Astros come to town, it's the only sporting event I pay money to see.

If you remember, the NFL passed on LA for (ahem) a better city. Because as large as the "media market" is here most people don't give a rat's ass about a sports team unless it becomes a winner and gets a morning talkshow jocking. I would venture to guess that most NBA merchandising in LA county older than Kobe Bryant's career probably says "Bulls" on it.

Sure, everybody loves a winner, but at the Clippers/Rockets game I saw late in the season, were probably the largest collection of real basketball fans I'd seen in one place since I left Houston. I even met an old college friend of Shandon Anderson's from UGA, and got to watch Calvin Murphy show Keith Closs how to shoot free throws. One-handed.

Lakers games are places to be seen. That's where you go to impress the client and close the deal, or pretend you're a celebrity. At Laker games, I get to see girls with blue hair and multiple facial piercings shriek "Go Kobe!" and don't understand "illegal defense" and "travelling". Sometimes it would nearly come to blows.

The last time I was at a Laker game there were a few of those right in front of me. To my great fortune, were six of the biggest fans I had ever encountered at any venue right beside me. I daresay they were six of the biggest guys I'd ever seen period. Needless to say, the shrieking didn't last long. Turns out they were visiting town from a faraway place called The Fifth Ward. I can say they could out-cheer and out-heckle the best of them, and they were hardly afraid of the walk back to the car after the game. I about died when Kobe turned the ball over to Cuttino and one guy said "You're a punk Kobe, go back to school."

Oh yeah, and I don't miss the humidity and heat. But I sure miss the rain, and the barbecue, and the Richmond Arms, and friendly people, and high school kids with high SAT scores that hate the Lakers, and Whataburger, and Hakeem Olajuwan water, and real breakfasts, and drinking beer in the park without getting fined, and pretty girls that don't care what kind of car you drive...

I think it's safe to say LA deserves the Lakers and Houston deserves the Rockets. [IMG]

You must not spend much time in the Galleria or Downtown areas! There are plenty of money grubbing hoes in Houston, but I agree there are some fine women that are above that.
