No its not done yet. They are waiting to see where Finley, Sprewell, and DA will endup. I think Rockets want to know how much will they be paying if they sign and trade for spree and sign DA as a FA. Lets see how it works out, but i know that he is coming back next year.

he's coming back, i heard they are waiting on signing deke because they dont want to mess with the cap for signing FA's. B/c teams get more cap for re-signing their own players they'll do that last so wahtever available cap space is used on new FAs not our own players.correct me if im wrong

Or not. I saw Nikestrad shoot this idea down in one of the hoopsworld threads that got deleted. More likely, Deke is still unsigned because he's out of the country.

your wrong. the rockets CANNOT go over the cap to sign deke. they only have his early bird rights. they can offer him 175% of last years salary which is about 8.3 million, the LLE, or the vet min. he will most likely end up taking the minimum, which is an absolute steal.

You also made a mistake. They can offer him UP to, but not necessarily exactly to, 175% of last years salary. That means we can offer him up to 8.3mil, but we'll probably offer up to 3-5mil to bring him back. The holdup probably that he's out of the country and should be back soon.

    Deke will be back.

    No need to worry.

If we acquire Sprewell and or Anderson it will be by one of these methods:

    1) Trade - That of course doesn't require cap space.
    2) Sign for LLE - The LLE is an exception to the cap and requires no cap space.
    3) Sign for vet minimum - Also an exception to the cap which requires no cap space.

We are already over the salary cap, so we have no cap space. So, no matter what type of deal Mutumbo signs, we will still be over the cap and have no cap space.

You of course are correct. With Early Bird rights the deal has to be a min of two years, and can start UP TO 1.75 the player previous salary or the average player salary, whichever is greater (with no raises to up to 10.5% raises).

I assume for Deke it will be a two year deal for somewhere between 4 or 7 mil total and no raise. 2.5 for each year (5 mil total) would be very fair for both parties--anything lower is gravy for the Rockets.

Should we feel safe about Deke coming back? I've wondered why he hasn't signed yet. Is this just a timing issue or the negotiations not worked out? Is the contract ready to be signed, but Deke is doing his thing in the Congo? You know what I mean right. Anyone want to take a stab at this one?

I would love Deke to come back just as well as anyone trust me. There were times I would have rather had him than Yao. I wonder though, despite all comments made by the organization if they are thinking of swinging Swift? I sure hope not.

read in another thread that they expect it to be done by Friday.

IT is in the same story as the exact time they expect to be signing DA's contract...

I dont see any reason to worry...Deke wants to come back(this is in print) and CD/VG want him back(also in print)...Deke has been out of the country dealing with the Basketball Without Borders program up till now...its jus a matter of him being here and signing the contract Im sure.
