Has anyone seen the new 'kick-butt' Glen Rice with their own eyes?

    Hi guys

Just wondering about something. I have seen many references
to Glen Rice being so much improved, so much more healthy, and
'tearing up' some vague on-court action this summer. I just was
wanting to know if anyone has some specifics about this.

And don't get me wrong. Nobody wants Rice to be his old great
self more than I do. I have been a Rice fan for a long time. In
fact, over the last several years, it happened that among the few
Rox games I was able to attend in person were against the
Hornets, and each time Rice was just a monster, I mean that guy
just killed us. And this was when we were still good too, not long
removed from our championship years. I always thought it would
be a good thing to somehow manage to get him on our team.

However, I also went to the Golden State game last year (the
one where the Warriors came into Houston and absolutely
destroyed us), and Rice was spending every moment he could
out on the court, shooting, working on his shot, between quarters
and during the half. And it was breaking my heart, because the
guy just looked like an old man out there. He was working on his
shot, but he was not *working* at it, if you know what I mean.
He was slow, it literally looked like his whole shooting motion was
happening in slow motion. And even that would not have been so
discouraging if he had at least been MAKING a majority of those
shots he was taking. Maybe I am overreacting a bit, but watching
him was not giving me a good hopeful warm-fuzzy feeling about
    his future in the NBA.

So now we are hearing all this stuff about how awesome he has
been over the summer. That would be great, but it sure would be
a huge leap over where he was just a couple months prior. So if
anyone has any eyewitness accounts, stat sheets from these
games he has played in where he has been so dominant, I would
love to see it. Cuz if he is all that he is rumored to be this coming
season, then fantastic! Just what we need.

I guess we will find out soon enough one way or the other. I for
one am crossing my fingers, both for his sake and the Rockets'.

    Ciao

wasn't he tearing it up in a summer league somewhere?

at least his injuries have totally be taken care of, as far as i know.

even a rice at 50% can be a tremendous asset to the team, not just in terms of his shooting and rebounding, but in terms of experience, veteran leadership, etc.

but other than that, i also would like to know what's up with him. i started another thread way back asking whether he was an albatross or a star, would love to see him kick some butt.

Can't say I've seen the new "kick-butt" Rice in action (although I don't really remember there being too many references to him being in kick-butt shape), but I saw Rice shooting around before a number of home games last season, and in the second half of the season, when he was healthier, his shot was definitely "kick-butt." The man would drill them for 10 minutes straight a step behind the 3 point line regulary before games. Anyway, I hope we see a healthy Glen this year.

I saw him at a Rockets - Bulls game in the spring. He made about 80-100 3 pointers in shoot around and was looking real good back then. He's had another 6 months to rehab, so I can only imagine he is looking really good by now. At least we are not hearing about his feet and knees like we were last year. It also seems to me the Rockets would sign someone like Walt or Nailon for insurance if they were worried about Rice.

It really doesn't matter if Rice is as good as he can get. Boki is faster and can go to the basket faster and dunk the ball. I think Boki will be a starter quicker than most people think. Rice is just to old to keep up.

No one was against the Rice trade more than I was (hence the sig) but I genuinely want Rice to succeed this season. It takes the pressure off of Boki (and Tmo to some extent) and provides time to learn the NBA game.

Rice's age is not as much a factor as conditioning. The game is much more than who can run faster and dunk...just ask the US Worlds Team.

all we need him for is to hit the 3. thats all rudy ever wanted out of a sf. he can do that.

he also can come around screens for a mid-range shot if he is feeling it (and rudy wants to milk him).

I guess you would rather have Shandon Anderson's 40+ mill over 6 or 7 years?

We wouldn't've signed Anderson for 7 mils a year if it's not for the Rice trade.

God, I am so tired of this argument....

    A) We were not forced to resign Anderson OR trade for Rice, we could have let the first walk and the other hobble somewhere else.

    B) Even IF you accept the rumour that we had already agreed to overpay Anderson before we traded for Rice, as my momma used to say, two wrongs don't make a right...

    That's true!

But imagine what would've happened had Shandon got annoyed that we didn't give him the contract that we (allegedly) promised him. If he blurts out that we didn't fulfill our side of the bargain then we would be in T'Wolves country right now (no Ming, no Nachbar, no Griffin, no Morris, no Rice and no salad).

In that case, CD would have to put it on paper to get caught.

you can believe that if you want, but I highly doubt Shandy and Mo were signed for exceptions simply cuz they liked Hou.

Mo and $handy ended up with what they wanted.

Since I doubt you were drinking buds with RT & CD last summer, I will severly doubt you if you try to tell me that was the only deal on the table. :p

Further, I didn't give a flying leap what happened to Shandon Anderson...I just didn't want Glen Rice. Now that we're stuck with him, I want him to be successful and be a mentor since the Rocks are a very young team.

The Rockets would be out of their collective mind if they promised 7 mils a year to a 8 ppg backup SG out of Utah. Since they drafted Ming, I think they still have sanity.

Even if there's undertable deal, there's no way it'll be around 7 mils a year for 6-7 years for Anderson.

I don't want to keep whipping this dead horse's ass, but i guess it seems like another time to do it. The Rockets could have let him walk and not get an injured Glen Rice with 3 yrs left on his deal come here. Its obvious Rudy has a hard on for 3pt shooters even though he is remembered as a great in between shooter. Rudy has always had the Jones' for Glen Rice for the appaerent reason of being an outside shooter. I know I'm not the only that remembers the Hakeem for Seikley and Rice trade that almost happened. The only good thing that came about in getting Rice this past yr was .......................
