Has anyone noticed Yao Ming being distracted by the string bracelet he wears?

Yeah, I noticed it too. It even seemed to bother him sometimes.

I don’t think it’s a concern, He was just a little nervous.

 

Maybe it helps him focus ..kind of like the Barkley rubber band thing..I haven't seen a game but does he really mess with it that much ? I've seen several remarks about this bracelet.

 

I thinks it's just a nervous tick that he has like curling your hair or bitting your nails. If it bothers him I'm sure he would take it off.

 

yeah, i've noticed that too.

this has to be more distracting ... him having to retuck his shirt back in his shorts after every other possession. I know its not really his fault since it has more to do with the design and material of their uniforms, but still, can't the trainers or equipment manager pin his shirt to his underwear or something. Screw the looks of the Rockets uniforms, just the fact that the Rockets players are the only players in the league who have to constantly retuck their jerseys while running down the court should have been enough of a reason for a uniform change years ago.

 

I saw him in Oakland when the Chinese national team played team USA in that pre-World Championship exhibition match...

... and yea, he constantly fidgeted with the red bracelet. At the time I didn't know what it was, but it looked uncomfortable to me. After a while, just see him constantly scratch at it started kinda annoying me... you know, that frustrating feel like there's an itch you can't reach!

But if he's ok with it, I'm sure I can manage to get over it. I can't imagine he's really distracted by it... as long as he's not doing it while holding on to the ball!

 

I honestly had nightmare's last night about how bad the current Rockets uniforms are. I could not get the images out of my mind. But then I thought about next year and the possibilities of having our squad in some respectable uni's and it made the nightmares go away.

I also think the referees will respect our players more when we take off the pajamas.

 

he never messes with it during a play, just up and down the court. it doesn't seem like a bothersome thing, more just a habit, nothing that affects his game.

 

If he starts messing with it when he actually has the ball then there is a problem.

 

he looked more distracted by the refs and Steve and Cat not passing him the ball...

 

I can not believe that you guys seriously think that a rubber band will affect Yao Ming's game this year. Dude will success with 10 rubber bands on each arm.

 

I remember readng somewhere that his girlfriend wears exactly the same bracelet. As you said, he never seems to mess with it while playing, just while going up and down the floor. Sounds very much like Barkley's rubber band.

 

This thread would make Mack Brown proud. It would give him another thing to blame an OU loss on. No, a bracelet would not affect Ming's play.

Yeah, he keeps messing with it because it
keeps sliding down his arm. He puts it back
up high on his forearm, tight. Then, after
a few rebounds/slaps on the arms. It gets
knocked back down. So, he puts it back
up on forearm.

Back and forth. You'd figure he'd learn that it's
not going to stay up there...

He's a kid and home sick. In the mean time
he should wear a wrist-band over it; will hold it
snug.

After he get's married, he'll stop wearing it all
together! DOH!

 

Maybe he should lose the bracelet and just rub the side of his face at the free throw line. Maybe he could also try wearing the bracelet on his ankle.

The bracelet has to go, people.
