    had to beat all three texas teams to get to the finals?
    if not wouldnt that be a tough route to get the the finals?

    Nope. SA's the only Texas team capable of beating any other title contender.

    The 87-88 Lakers had to beat the Spurs and Mavs to get to the NBA Finals.

    The 85-86 Lakers beat the Spurs and Mavs before losing to the Rockets in the WC Finals 4-1. IIRC, game 5 was Ralph Sampson's famous turn around shot as the clock expired.

    Given the the Rockets use a playoff caliber style during the season, the Mavs can put up points on anyone and the Spurs are the defending champs with a 27-17 conference record, I'd say it's a tough road.

    Anyway, the 1998 Jazz had to beat the Rockets (first round) Spurs (second round) to make it to the NBA Finals.
