Anyone care to give a background on this "story?" Explain EXACTLY how Reid broke laws and used his office for whatever illegal purposes? Seriously.... do it, do it... Oh, then compare it to the current Republican problems.

    Thank you,

well. certainly in the sense that he was the first to have actual sex w/ underage male pages, and then be subsequently praised by ted kennedy for his work with the fishing industry.

Reid took campaign contributions and used them to pay bonuses to staffers adn the like. He has had to return campaign contributions.

Reid broke the rules and deserves everything that he gets as a result.

I think the reason that there isn't all that much talk about it is that it seems when a Dem. breaks the rules most people don't try and justify it, or bring up incidents from 20 years ago when someone else did something similar.
(the one exception is that some people will try and make excuses for Bill Clinton.)
I don't see that many people trying to defend Reid. It just doest bring about that much discussion.

When these GOP guys get caught doing something people seem to stretch twist, spin and deflect in order to give the wrong-doer a break.

you're either being obtuse, or you're not paying attention. there's something quite a bit bigger in play than paying the building staff w/ campaign contributions.

[rquoter]Harry Reid of Nevada, reportedly pocketed more than a million dollars in a land deal with a longtime friend who has mob ties.[/rquoter]

Believe me, I'm from Nevada... a lot of significant business/political people have mob ties here. Just ask Mayor Goodman of Las Vegas what he used to do.

    do you have a link?

if he is found to have done anything wrong he should be held accountable. if that means resigning or criminal charges, so be it.

but as for you, as a bush supporter you have absolutely no room to talk when it comes to corruption.

The Las Vegas Gambling lobby is so powerful it practically is the mob. It's the 2nd most powerful lobby in the country and yet it only represents a handful of businesses on a strip in Las Vegas. Their influence is so large that they literally have a stranglehold on state politics in virtually every state.

So its no surprise that someone from Nevada has ties to the mob and casino interests. It's virtually impossible not to.

From wikipedia... so, this is Nevada for you. Harry Reid comes from the ghetto and keeps it a little too real.

As for the land deal... the lack of disclosure appears to be the biggest part of the problem. I don't know what the sanction is for the violation.

The structure of the deal itself seems to be fairly common in the commercial real estate world, if I remember correctly. I've come across some of it in readings I did for law school classes.

but that doesnt make it ok. and for me there is no question that reed has some very questionable ties to questionable people.

No of course its not ok and if he's caught then he should resign. But I'm just saying that I wouldn't be surprised at all if he was getting funding from these types of groups.

I was trying to make the point that Reid has been involved in more than one scandal. The land deal is just the latest.
