I have recently finished reading the first two Harry Potter books, "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" and "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" and I am now starting on the third book, "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban". I also watched the two films about the first two books. Let me tell you, the movies were great and the books are wonderful reading material. Anyone who hasn't read one of the books or saw one of the movies need to do so because this stuff is totally addicitng. I still can't belive I'm saying this...I'M 23 YEARS OLD!!!

Anyway, I have a question that some of you other Harry Potter fans might know the answer to. In the second story, "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets", Dobby the house elf comes to warn Harry at the beginning of the story not to go back to Hogwarts. He talks about the plot to make bad things happen there at the school. He never tells Harry who is plotting against him. It eventually turns out to be Lord Voldemort of course but exactly how did Dobby know all this? I have read the book and watched the movie and still have not understood. Someone help me...

Let me tell you, this movie/reading material has to be using subliminal messaging. No way a movie about witchcraft can be so addicting to older mature people. Its boring to me! I watched the movie cause my girlfriend wanted to go see it, but damn. I think so many other forms of movie/book entertainment can be more addicting. and no, not just p*rn.

Subliminal my ass..it is just plain good writing..she weaves a good story about good vs evil and creates an interesting world to lose yourself in.

Pun...without spoiling anything...Dobby's previous owners have ways of knowing about activities on the dark side.

You will find out more about that relationship inthe next two books.

I cant wait till the next book, it is a well written series.
I have to give Rowling credit, the Harry Potter series has gotten my 10yr old into reading, she wasnt that interested in reading before...but after she got into the movies, and realized that I had all the books..she started reading them..and now she is expanding into other authors.

A great relief to me, as I thought maybe I failed to pass along my love of reading to her. :)

All will be revealed my son, all will be revealed. Patients!

There is something addicting about these books. I read the forth one (some 750 pages) in two sittings.

    I couldn't put it down!

and I won't tell you how old I am

Harry Potter books are great because they aren't pansy-fied like most other children's books are.

    yea..but don't give it away..too late...lol

mc....you didnt get that impression? in the forth one.....you know...;)

    htown...
you are certainly entitled to your opinion...but I dont brainwash easy. I'm way to much of an independent thinker to be like that.

    curious...
are you a fan of fantasy/sci-fi? I have a theory that says that the people that really enjoy this series already have the tendency towards fantasy writing.

or are you just one of those religious types that thinks anything about witches/wizards is bad?

not being nasty or sarcastic...just curious.

Are we talking about dobby belonging to malfoy? He did, but he isn't now. I understand that now.

technically he belonged to the Malfoy family... and the Sr one was tricked into giving him an article of clothing, which freed him..

and who was he tricked by? HP of course...

but it still doesnt take away from why I believe he knew of the danger in the 2 book..can you be more specific of why you believe otherwise without giving it away to Pun?

This is my friend's quote on Harry/Hermoine: I had said "hermoine and ron could be an item. it's obvious with the scene at the end." His response "bullsh!t. Harry should be able to bang any witch there." He's a 32 year-old man.
