If you have finished the last Harry Potter book, this thread is for you, what did you think? (DO NOT READ FURTHER IF YOU HAVE NOT FINISHED THE BOOK). I am going to use spoilers in this post, but this thread is for those who have finished the book, so be wary that not everyone may use spoilers. Spoiler I loved the book, thought it was incredibly dark, and liked the ending too, especially the part where Harry and Ginny are seeing their kids off to Hogwarts. What did you think of the quest for Horcruxes? I was pretty sure that Harry was one early on, but did not think he would survive the fight with Voldy, I figured he would be dead and so would Voldermort, and thought that maybe the stone would bring him back. I loved the duel, especially before the big showdown, I could just see Hogwarts exploding all around them. I am glad that Ron and Hermoine finally got to snogging !!! I was sad about Lupin and Fred, and was shocked by Snape's being truly on Dumbledores side, though not willingly...... Do you guys think it will be the last Harry Potter book, or will JK come up with some new adventures for our 4 eyed hero? Also, I was sad when I finished, knowing that I would not be able to go on adventures with those characters again, there is nothing like reading a GREAT book or series of books for the first time......nothing. DD
Spoiler I pretty much predicted the end of the novel, besides the fact that harry survived. I always had a hunch that part of voldemort's soul was attached to harry and in turn, turned out to be a horcrux in itself. The ending where hes at kings cross with dumbledore is sorta confusing [i had to re-read that part once over] but i definitely liked the epilogue [even though it kinda seemed forced on rowling's part in her attempt to completely end the novel]
Spoiler I also enjoyed Percy coming back and finally realizing his place, but I was sort of expecting their older brother to come swooping in on a Dragon, but he wasn't even in the Novel.
Spoiler I agree about the confusion in the scene at King's cross. What exactly happened there? The way I read it, Harry had a choice between choosing death and a semi-beaten VD or coming back with a chance of ending it all (and possibly losing)?
Spoiler I don't think he really had a choice, I think that Dumbledore was sort of going along with what Harry was thinking, but knew all along he had to come back. I am still a bit confused about Snape though as people are saying he is vindicated, but in reality he was still a Death Eater. I don't quite understand why he was protecting Potter after Lilly died. Why did he feel he had to protect him exactly? DD
some people here know where i work. so i have a lot of thoughts on this. first of all, not all of the HP readers are nerds. I think some people read it, cause it's the book to read, just like Brown's Da Vinci code. And they gotta be in it so they can discuss at the dinner table or bar or whatever.
Spoiler I dunno, the fact that harry was a Horcrux and Snape had a relationship with Lily were pretty much damn-near accepted canon by the time this book came out, so there really wasn't much predicting to get those two right. The book felt kinda...safe to me. That isn't to say it wasn't good, -- I loved the dark foreboding tone-- but in order to get everything to work out well in the end, Rowling had to leave a few glaring plot holes in. I mean, there was Voldemort not realizing that Kreacher was alive back in Book 5, Snape somehow talking to Dumbledore's portrait in the headmaster's office in the middle of the summer, that horrible blood-elder wand (read: deus ex) mess that really only existed to save Harry and allow him to defeat Voldemort at the end (really, no one can agree on exactly what the hell happened here. Jo's gonna have to do some explaining). And Voldemort seemed a little stupid as well. Honestly, he should have simply took off after most of his death eaters had been defeated and Harry had inexplicably survived his killing curse yet again. Also, he hid a Horcrux in the Room of Requirement? Are you kidding me? That certainly wasn't in character for him. I guess arrogance can make you do dumb things, but these two occurances kinda ruined the epicness of the final duel for me. I liked the epilogue though (I think she had that part written back when she wrote "Plilosopher's Stone"). Unfortunately, it left a whole new cast of characters available for all those fan-ficers out there, but at least it gave a bit of closure to everyone. Wish she could've included something about poor, lonely, one-eared, George though, so we know he was okay. Maybe he could have married Luna or something.
And these are my fellow rocket fans? So this is why the league sees us as losers huh? J/k, I'd rather watch the movie though then read the book
yea iirc, rowling denied all the rumors that were going on.. so i was half-expecting all the predictions to be completely off track
Spoiler Actually, one of the few things I've gotten right was Snape's allegiance. I'm suprised how they turned Dumbledore's personality around for about 95% of the book. I actually felt that Snape did what was asked of him by Dumbledore, except I could not seem to put down the notion that Dumbledore's actually dead. Hedwig and Dobby dying was sad. Hedwig not as much, but Dobby dying because he had to. Otherwise, it's too easy to show the audience that Dumbledore's actually dead. And it would've made no sense that they wouldn't ask Dobby and know that Abercroth sent him. My favorite part was Percy's appearance. It was a good touch by Rowlings to add that in there. I also loved how the book left little left to ponder about. It had a closing feeling to it. I was almost extremely disappointed when I thought it ended before the "Epilogue" next page. That would've been quite disappointing. Fred was sad. It just felt weird to me how Harry seem to accept so readily that Snape was all into his mom. But then again, he barely knew his own parents. Ron and Hermione's role at the end was a lot less than I'd hope for. That's all from me.
Spoiler I loved the book and was not suprised to see her go that way with Snape as that was my feeling straight away after reading the 6th book. The favourite part of the book for me was the change in Kreacher and seeing him coming out with all the others at the end. I seem to be in the minority as well, I loved the final chapter and the closure it gave in regards to how the relationships progressed. Finally we got to see Mrs Weasley go nuts (its been building) in the final battle with Bellatrix. My only disappoiontments were the lack of Ginny and Neville in the book, The rushed deaths of Tonks & Lupin and the fact we didn't hear anything about George going into the final battle. I must admit also to feeling it when Harry was walking to his death, especially when he looked back and saw Ginny.
What's wrong with a bunch of basketball fans reading a children's book? Aboslutely nothing. Loved the book.
That made me laugh. It is odd that, having never read any of the books or seen the movies, I was sort of pleased to read the spoilers (considering what could have been).
Spoiler Ok, one part I did not quite get was why the elder wand belonged to Draco instead of to Severus, can someone help clear that up for me? Great book. DD
FIXED YER POST, bud. Carry on with your kids' book discussion, all. I love how everyone is posting Spoiler spoilers . Can I post mine?
