http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/headline/entertainment/4276143.html Harrison Ford ready to be Indiana Jones again Associated Press ROME - Harrison Ford says he feels ``fit to continue'' to play Indiana Jones despite growing older. Ford, 64, said at the inaugural Rome Film Festival on Friday that he was delighted to team up again with directors Steven Spielberg and George Lucas for the film. Lucas co-wrote and executive produced the earlier films, which Spielberg directed. "We did three films that stay within the same block of time. We need to move on for artistic reasons and obvious physical reasons,'' Ford said at a news conference. ``I feel fit to continue and bring the same physical action.'' Indiana Jones 4 has been in development for over a decade, but the production has recently gained momentum. Lucas has said he and Spielberg, who would direct, are working on a script, though no details have been disclosed. Ford played Indiana Jones in 1981's Raiders of the Lost Ark, 1984's Temple of Doom and 1989's The Last Crusade. In the last film, Jones' father was played by Sean Connery, who Ford said might also appear in the planned fourth feature. "He's part of the emotional fabric of these films. I think there may be an opportunity, I believe that Sean is still willing and I'd be delighted if he joined us,'' said Ford. Connery, who attended the Rome event last week, has said that no offer had been made. Ford declined to provide details about a shooting schedule or film locations, adding that the directors were not yet finished with the script. "I think it's a real opportunity to make a film as successful ... as the ones we've made before,'' he said.
I think it would be really cool. Instead of dealing with Nazis all the time, the older jones could be in the thick of the 50's cold war and deal with the soviets. Put me down.
I don't like the idea of Indy hobbling around in his mid-60's. Especially since the last time George Lucas attempted a long-awaited 4th entry in one of his popular film franchises, the result was The Phantom Menace. I don't get the sudden trend of 4th entries in movie series previously thought dead. Ok, Rambo IV makes sense since Stallone can't get an original project greenlit to save his life. But Bruce Willis' career ain't exactly in the crapper. Why do Die Hard 4(or Live Free or Die Hard) now after it's been 12 years since the last movie? Legal Wreckin 4 is another recent example, although at least that one only took 6 years to get made after #3. It still ended up being a piece of crap, but that's beside the point. Ironically, the one 4th entry I would've loved to have seen was Mad Max: Fury Road, and it was almost made a couple years ago until they cancelled it at the last minute.
Yeah but Lucas directed that trash; Spielberg (presumably) would direct Indiana Jones 4 since he always has directed this franchise. As long as you keep Lucas out of there it should be all right. Spielberg is hit or miss, but Lucas hasn't directed anything other than star wars-related movies for over 30 years, and the only good one he did was the first one (he didn't do Empire Strikes Back or Return of the Jedi).
Well then your not gonna like the comment Spielberg and Lucas made on how they want Indy IV to be to the Indiana Jones franchise what Phantom Menace was to Star Wars. That should have you scared. I don't like the idea. It's not Indy w/o Nazis...it's not Indy if it's an older, hobbling Henry Jones Jr. Plus, I thought the ending to Crusade, with all of them riding off into the sunset, was the perfect conclusion to not only the film but the series. Let it be (like Die Hard).
They've been working on this for years, it didn't just come up. I'm not exactly sure how many people have been hired to write a script for this, but there have been a few drafts.
Oh I liked them too...don't get me wrong...but they do, moreso the first than the other two, have their problems. Just making that comparison scares me a little...considering I think Lucas has become too obsessed with cgi over the years. An Indy IV perhaps 10 years ago I could have seen....but now, it's just a bad idea; a desperate attempt to reignite an aging actor's career and seemingly concluded franchise.
10 years in the making and no finished script. By the time it's released, Ford will be getting his retirement pay, and Connery will be in diapers.
Well, they did drink from the cup in the last film, so, in theory, they should... Aw screw it...it's just a bad idea.
