Harold Ford is going to be a player politcally in the future

Sometimes Harold Ford makes me want to be a Democrat. He's what everyone thinks Barack Obama is... politics is so shallow.

 

You're right, he's going to be a player in the future. He should do well with the ladies.

 

And let us not forget Corker ran the slimiest campaign in the nation this year. The guy is going to be a blight on the senate.

Not really. I like Harold Ford alright, but he isn't Barak Obama.

 

If Ford were white, he would have won that election. Period.

Honestly I think there needs to be more change in the South before a black man can win a statewide election there.

 

48% against a racist-tinged campaign in TN is nothing to sneeze at and certainly something to build on. Every year, more hard-core pre-Civil Rights mentality crackers die off. There's another Senate race (Lamar!) in 2008 and he's free to start campaigning for that one today should he choose. It wouldn't surprise me to see Lamar retire... if so, I don't know who's on the Repub bench to be as effective as Corker.

 

He does seem to have a bit of a zombie stare though. And he is a fairly intense black guy, which southerners and middle-age whites don't like, except during March Madness or Bowl Season. But he likes football and girls.

That's not the reason I voted against him. The reps ran quite an effective smear campain against him - and it had nothing to do with his race. If Corker were a black man, he would have won.

That's just a wild-ass stab in the dark, now isn't it. Considering the COrker campaign endorsed an effective, but racist advertisement, it's really not enormously likely that they would have done the same if Corker himself was black.

On the other hand, if it was a black democratic candidate vs. a black republican candidate, Tennessee itself just might have exploded!!! (I kid, I kid...well, sort of - not trying to stereotype the whole state now)

 

I must have missed the racist advertisement but I don't know how since we were hammered with Corker/Ford advertising.

There are racists that live here - I won't deny that, but if Ford was all you all cracked him up to be, the rest of us "crackers" would have voted for him.

Personally I don't care what gender or color a person skin when he's/she's my politician, banker, pastor or friend. But will they do in office what I think needs to be done or protected? I wasn't' a Corker man at all but if the Dems wanted to pick someone who can win in TN, they needed to pick someone more conservative. That's why a large amount of registered republicans consistantly vote for our Democrat governor - including myself. Left will win in some states but it won't win in TN and it has nothing to do with race.

Barack has been vested with some kind of charismatic appeal that no one else has, I guess.

 

The ad with the white woman saying "Harold, call me" and the one saying that if you don't vote for Ford you're a racist are credited with turning the tide of the election against Ford and for Corker. Those ads are racist period, the second more obvious than the first. One would think that living in the Deep South, everyone laps this stuff up, but if not, the first ad is completely and virulently racist because the white fear of black people sexing up white women is a deep rooted and stereotypically racist one. Lynch mobs used to come out and own black people simply because they supposedly harassed white women. Certainly that won't happen now, but the feeling is still there, and it's totally racist. Corker completely tapped into that with that ad, and since Ford was leading in the polls before that **** started, and then subsequently fell behind, I'd say that those ads were largely responsible.
