I was driving along today and pulled up next to this younger guy, maybe 25, on a Harley. The first thing I think is 'Aren't you a little young to be riding a Harley?'

It seems like either old school biker holdouts or guys who finally have the money (older) are almost the only people riding Harley-Davidsons.

I confirmed this with a buddy of mine who rides sports bikes (he owns two Triumphs) and he concurred, it's mostly older gents riding them.

If my car ever bites the dust, I'm pretty tempted to get a beginner bike.

And then I see a photo taken inside the ER of some dude who had his femur sticking out of his butthole after a motorcycle wreck.

And I throw that idea back in the dumpster.

This is why I have never taken the plunge and tried a bike.

However, I have become more and more intrigued by the new Can-Ams - three-wheelers with the two wheels in front. The reviews I have read have been great, they are safer, more stable, and easier to drive.

Has anyone here ever had one of those? Or tried one? If so, what did you think?

Harleys cost way too much for what they are.

Not in Colorado where bike clubs are plentiful for biking in the mountains in the summer as a recreational past-time and hobby.

I've rode sport bikes and standards since I was 22. I'm 30 now. My next bike will probably be a Sportster 1200. Is that a yes?

Too damn expensive to get a Harley. I would definitely have wanted one, but it was much cheaper to get a Honda Nighthawk 750 right out of College.

I agree. I got my first bike about 4 years ago. Harleys were expensive.
I ended up going with a much cheaper Yamaha V-Star 650 and it looks awesome...not as loud as a Harley but I dont care.

When I think Harley I think 38-50 year old white male school teacher with a slightly longer haircut, possibly balding.

No way. I own a Sportster and people always compliment me on it.

I think when people think of Harleys, it's model like the FL Panhead, Road King, or Street Glide.

Actually, as people get older they tend to go either custom trike or Honda Goldwing (aka Winnebiko). The cost of Ultraglides usually tip those Harleys to older riders and you often see older riders on older Harleys, but most Harleys are ridden by yupsters that ride (or more precisely, own) to impress. You can usually tell those riders... they're the ones that trailer their bikes and are afraid to get them wet.

btw, it used to be that Harley riders looked down at Sporties. Called them girl bikes. Had to be at least a Dyna to be considered a Harley.

Dead on in my thoughts as well. I'm 27, don't have a bike, but when I do get one it'll be almost exactly like the above.
