I disagree. I think there's a pretty strong likelihood Olajuwon was faking an injury. He acknowledges he was immature and that he had a ton of growing up to do. He wasn't playing...and not because he couldn't. That was down the stretch chasing a playoff spot. I'd say that's dogging it, no matter what the cause was. He had to grow up. That 91/92 Rockets squad was one of the more disappointing Houston sports teams in my lifetime. They were coming off a 52 win season and won 42 games, missing the playoffs. After 7 full seasons in Houston the question was being asked of whether Olajuwon was the kind of player that could lead you to a championship. Honestly, I thought it was more likely than not he'd be traded. That certainly seemed to be the common thought of that time. I'm glad (obviously) we stuck with him.
Thank you! If we had the media coverage and platforms to vent like we do now it's very similar to the way people talk about James. I remember having arguments about dream at the park, work and gym but it wasn't 24/7 on a forum, news and TMZ. It festers a vitroil unlike what we had back then.
So what you're saying is trading good basketball players the moment things go a little south might not be the best idea in the world? I don't know man...
Agree with your point, BUT Harden is looking to be a lot more like Carmelo Anthony than Hakeem. Great scorer who doesn't make the players around him better, and doesn't seem to care much about defense.
That's about organizational culture. Problem starts with the Les Alexander and then for last ten years, with Morey. T-Mac, Francis or Harden wouldn't be like ''i can do whatever i want and i can get away with it'' that in any Boston Celtics or Spurs team. Organizational culture starts with the chairman's attitude, it's structured towards the characterizations of the persons inside the organization. And if you dont punish, or not even warn a guy with childish behaviour just because he is talented or ''superstar'' you're gonna have a hard time even if you have 11 superstars on 1 team. Players like Hakeem's mentality doesnt grow on trees but you can teach it inside on your organizations enviroment. If you can do that, you wont need to find a trade to get a superstar, you can produce yours (kawhi, parker etc). But if you wont do it, start praying guys like Hakeem and Duncan jackpots to hit your team.
Hakeem was there before les Alexander too. Maybe charlie thomas and steve Patterson had better control of their players
