Run TMD? (Tim, Michael, and Dirk) Hardaway for a second round pick and the trade exception? This is a good deal for the Mavs. I'd say that this cements Dallas as a contender for the midwest division title. I'm tired of seeing San Antonio or Utah's name up there every year. While Hardaway doesn't have the legs to play 40 min/game anymore, he can still light it up and has always had some of the best handles in the game.
Good to see that.........it also means that Mvs is a definite NO for Moochie...that leaves only Cleaveland and Miami as the other two options for Moochie...Cleaveland alrady has 17 guaranteed contracts. I guess they will not need more ...but Lucas could be high some....er....er....Miami is reportedly after Gatling.....so Moochie may run out of options!!! and then it would be nice to see Fegan screwed.....
Do they still have Nash? That will make for a nice duo at PG. It should be interesting playing Dallas this year.
Yes, Nash will continue to be their starting PG. But Timmy can step in at any time and they won't miss a beat. With Nash's questionable health at times, this really gives them a good backcourt. I also expect to see Timmy stepping in and playing a few minutes at the 2 also.
Yeah kinda good news. Competition for Mooch shrinks a little bit. It also confirms the reason for such an adamant refusal by Dallas to include a second rounder to Houston in the Rice Deal. It is evident now that they had already ear-marked that for Riley's Heat. Link to the story oops sorry didn't see your link ... oh well ....
Not a bad move, but I think many of ya'll are making too much of it. The best part is it does mean the Mavs won't be looking at Moochie. I think it was reasonable for the Mavs, but it might just as well cause problems. If Nash struggles a bit next year is he just going to be pulled. After many years in the league Nash finally put togther a good season, then they bring on another PG who likes to dominate the ball and has never accepeted being a role player. Maybe Hardaway is resigned to do what Cassell did for us when he was young (be an off the bench offensive spark), but that is a different role than Tim has ever has taken before. It is no sure they he adjusts to it and the Mavs adjust to him. Also, on one of the better teams in the easy over the last 3 years, Hardaway's shooting is not real good, he has shot less than 40% from the field and less than 37% from 3 land. Interestingly, Eisely shot better last year from the field and 3 land than Hardaway. Hardaway overall is a better individual player than Eisely, but whether he makes a better back up and fits within their offensive scheme is a different question. Besides, the Mavs still haven't done much to address their real problems, interior play. Like with us, until it is more formadible I don't think they will be an "elite" team.
That's right and it doesn't affect the Rockets! The Mavs were already a playoff team! Good thing Minnesota, Phoenix, or Utah didn't improve! We'll take their playoff spot!
I agree with Scar, this isn't that big of a deal. Dallas was already strong in the backcourt, and Hardaway doesn't have much left anyway. Eisley was a good backup, they're basically just replacing him.
Utah didn't improve???!??! Andre ScaryPinko is going to be a star in this league. If Sloan suddenly recognizes the life cycle of his club, Pinko will give a serious run for ROY (earlier I forgot that Andre maintains his rookie status). He's easily the 3rd best player on that team. Stevenson and the FEB will pale in comparison to Scary.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say Phoenix might have. Marbury is an awfully offensive guard and he and Marion will make a GREAT combo. Tsakalidas is not bad either. It will be interesting to see who gets it---you all or the Clippers (yes---the clippers).
It's called... stupidity! Seriously, this is a good deal for both. If Tim can stay healthy, the Mavs have some kind of PG rotation. Also, Tim's career just got extended. That "grind it out, every possession is a war" mentality that Riley coaches was just killing Hardaway's legs. I just hope for Tim's sake that it's not too late.
Phoenix is most definetly worse and at best a playoff bubble team like the Rockets. 1) in the Kidd-Marbury exchange they take a big time hit on defense, and most important, the guy to get the team on the same page. Guys like Marion, Robinson and Rodgers were made to look much better than they are offensively because of Kidd. The gain in Marbury's individual scoring will not come close to offset these loses--at least in the short term. 2) they lost their 3rd best player to essentially lower their team salary. This helps the owners wallet, and also might pay off long term, but certainly not in the short term. You could argue maybe Penny could reserge and help offset the Robinson loss, but Kidd was their engine.
Not a very steady limb. Marbury isn't close to being the playmaker, defender, or rebounder that Kidd is. They definitely lost out on that deal, and then traded Robinson, their third wheel(16.4 ppg) for spare change in John Wallace and Buechler.
Marion seems like a taller, more athletic Shandon Anderson. He looks great next to a playmaker, but will suffer next to a dominant scoring pg.
I'm not going to get in a argument with Achebe, but you've got to be kidding me... Utah didn't improve???!??! Andre ScaryPinko is going to be a star in this league. If Sloan suddenly recognizes the life cycle of his club, Pinko will give a serious run for ROY (earlier I forgot that Andre maintains his rookie status). Where did you see this kid play?? Let me guess... the summer league games...**** man, Bo Outlaw, Dan Langhi, and other mid-level players dominate in that league. I will agree he played well in the Utah vs. Houston game, but he would get raped in the League. Tmo was so disinterested in covering him, his fg% for the tournament was like 30%, and there is no way in hell he could give a "serious run for ROY" He would not play even close to as good as Rodney White, Kwame, Curry, or others will end up playing. The only thing I agree with is that he is one UGLY mother****a
tozai, As an aside, I'll say that I do have a good feeling about ScaryPinko. Did you know that he's played pro ball in Europe for 6 years? I realize that the summer league is hit or miss, but I do feel that you get a chance to gauge a player's energy in any basketball game. Only players that don't respect the game, IMO, would play down in the 'lesser' league. When those players later "turn it on" and excel b/c of sheer athleticism (which Andre doesn't lack too much of), they certainly can prove themselves to be great... but they also lose points in the competitive department. In that light, look at Andre. The guy played every possession, he hustled constantly (btw, I saw 3 of his games, not just the Hou game... you?). The guy is an incredible @ defensive recovery and shot blocking. He's a strong rebounder too. As far as his shooting goes, he shot over 43% from the field... shooting largely from the outside (w/ his shooting skewed by one "horrible" game (his word) where he shot 2/10). He has above average ball handling ability (I vaguely remember him taking the ball down court a few times as well). But yet you make the comment: I'm not sure why you say this. From most of the accounts that I've read, Curry has been stinking up the joint. Most of the reviews that I've read indicate that he's lazy and overweight. Kwame apparently did well, but media coverage seems somewhat lacking on his game. Other than the rumor that Jerry West called White 'the best player in the draft', I've seen nil on him. For that reason it was probably unfair of me to discount their chances at ROY (though I didn't say one thing or another about them). I didn't have enough info on them. But... did you? Why are you convinced that Curry is going to do anything? B/c he was labeled 'baby shaq' 2 or 3 years ago? B/c he's 6'10 or 6'11? Did you get a satellite dish so that you could follow Rodney White's career at Charlotte? Did you frequent Kwame's high school games? Something tells me that you're analysis about all of this is as erroneous as mine. Unfortunately for you, I'm going off the benefit of a) having watched Andre's games b) I actually know that he didn't shoot "30%" during the summer league and c) I don't dislike him b/c he plays for Utah, or b/c he's white.
If he didn't play for Utah, he might have a chance at Rookie of the Year, but no rookie will get enough PT from Sloan to contend for ROY. At least, past history would not seem to support that.
