I checked out our new Hard Rock Cafe last night here in Austin, TX and I must say that it was a huge disappointment. First of all the outside of the building is boring. The sign for the HRC is maybe 3ft by 3ft, and the outside is some ugly brown painted brick. The dont really have anything that draws you to it. Hell I could barely tell if they were open. We went inside around 9:30 pm and this place was dead anyways. I would say there were around 50 people there and most of those people were employees. The decor of the place was absolutely piss poor and a huge letdown for music fans. If you want to see a plethora of guitars, I would look elsewhere. This place maybe has a total of 12 guitars, and most of them sucked. If you want to see gold records, this is your place, they are everywhere. But to me I dont want to see a bunch of records which are probably replicas anyways. I thought for sure they would have some live music being that this is AUSTIN, the live music capital of the world, and it is the Hard Rock Cafe. Nope nothing nada..... Aparently they have bands on get this..... Monday night. Huh? Monday? I thought this place would be a great new venue for music acts to play in Austin, but I guess I was wrong. Oh yeah and they charge $4 for a pint of Sam Adams.... sheesh!
Yeah, most are disappointing... all hype. The 'Hard Rock Cafe' era has past... Food is overpriced and the place is over-rated. Do you remember when it was 'cool' to have a Hard Rock Cafe T-shirt?
It's not cool anymore? Guess that's why I get strange looks when I wear those with my topsiders, no socks, and pants rolled up.
TheFreak got you on that one. When was it 'cool' to go to a Hard Rock? What's your next choice, Planet Hollywood?
Anyone remember those pants that people would wear to sports bars or sporting events that had tiger stripes in the colors of their favorite teams? What were those pants called? Damn, I remember back in the day wanting a pair of those pants so bad, never got a pair though, thank god for that... So who here had a pair of those pants and what were they called?
ROTFLMFAO!!! I have no idea what they are called...maybe zebra pants!! But I remember seeing people wearing them. The only type of pants that I bought that were considered to be a "fad" were parachute pants. NOW, that brings back memories.
I never owned a pair but they were called Zubaz. The Aquarium in Kemah is pretty cool, though. Gotta agree with you there, boomboom. I was very impressed the time I went. Luckily, we went on a cold and rainy night, so we didn't have to deal with a line at all. Immediate seating rocks.
My mom bought me a pair for Christmas one year. Notre Dame zubaz. Sigh. I wouldn't even clean my bed, you know, with them.
Oh yeah! They were the hottest item, and those of us who didn't have one would wear substitutes. Our schools would design and sell T-shirts with a copycat design but the school's name on it. Notice this only happened in towns that didn't have a Hard Rock Cafe. Once you got one, everybody realizes that it's not all that, and you wouldn't be caught dead with the shirt. Of course, when your friends came in from out of town, they had to have one.
I owned a pair of parachute pants as well. I also owned the "Miami Vice" jacket, the skinny two-toned ties, the bicycle shorts...I could be on "That 80's show"!
