Happy 40th to Coach Ralph Sampson, The man who hit the greatest shot in Rockets and NBA history. What a great player he was but his career was cut short due to injuries. ------------------

he could have won a title if he had played for the Lakers. ------------------ My girl wants to ... party all the time! party all the time! party all the time!
And due to bad calls, don't forget the bad calls, on that shot for instance the refs said that shot bounced off the rim but it really swished if you look closely at the replays I have it on tape and would be happy to trade with any of you for tapes from the CBA 1978-79 preseason just send email
Will, Ha ha ha he he he hu hu hu man you so funny ha ha ha hu hu hu he he he man you so funny, That was almost as funny when I saw your picture on the clutchcity.com. Now that was funny I never seen a more funny speciman of the human species before. It was funny but scary too gave me nightmares. ------------------
Man nice comeback there Coach!! ------------------ Member of the pro-Collier/Langhi movement. IN RUDY WE TRUST!!
Coach, now your scaring me, that last post sounded like LHutz on medication. You should go back to your old X-Files paranoia self. Azim da Dream ------------------ We don't live for the destination. We live for the journey.
Great Rockets of the past? Color me confused, Coach. I thought this thread was about Ralph Sampson. ------------------
No, no, no, Coach. You're pushing the character too far. The ad hominem invective, the "Pacers People's Champion" stuff, the "glory of great Rockets" rhetoric -- it's all just about 5 degrees sillier than you need. It comes off sounding too conspicuously fake. Stick with the referee-bashing, the Sampsonmania and the Pacers fetish, and keep them at a low boil. Those are really good shticks. You're spoiling them with the extra wordplay and the hyper-hysterical tone. OK, now try again.
Geez, you'd think that some people here were Jazz fans the way a lot of you guys attack them... Now back to the original subject of Ralph Sampson, yeah, it is a big shame that his career was cut short, and I agree that he could've been one of the best. Even though that shot he hit againstLA was 99.5% luck, it still is fun to watch whenever they show it on ESPN Classic. Definitley in the top three when you factor in that it beat the defending champion $howtime bunch! [This message has been edited by AntiSonic (edited July 08, 2000).]
For me, that shot will ALWAYS be the greatest Rocket moment. You see, I had tickets to the next home playoff game. If the Rockets lose that game, the next home would have been game 6 in the WCFinals. By making that shot, Sampson put me in the finals as well. Behad ------------------
Brahma, you are completely wrong. The Kiss of death was fine, it was a big game, and it sealed the series, but to say it was any better than Kenny smith's double pump three at the buzzer in game one of the finals is rediculous. Mario Ellie was wide open. Kiss of Death does not even come remotely close, not even top 10, maybe top 20. Vernon Maxwell Raping the Spurs with last second shots for the entire 94 season...those were shots. Turning around, flying out of bounds for three. If he hadn't sealed those games Hakeem wouldn't have won MVP. The Rockets blatant regular season edge over the Spurs is what was the final straw in giving MVP to Hakeem instead of Robinson. Ralph's is definately the biggest shot. Kenny's three in game one of the Magic series is #2 Vmax and Sam Cassel have the next seventeen split between them, with some Dream sprinkled in there somewhere, and then MAYBE you can squeeze Mario in there. He was open. You rule Coach Sampson ------------------
Talking about Ralph Sampson. Was is true that his career was cut short because he does not like to workout? ------------------
I started this post to talk about Ralph Sampson's 40th but people like Will who does not know who Sampson is had to revert to his typical nonsense. You see Will is a computer fan. Most of Will's Rockets knowledge comes from a boxscore not actually watching Rockets games over the years. So I can understand when Will attemps to mess up a thread with pure nonsense. It is only fitting that he attemps to take away the glory of great Rockets of the past. ------------------
fromobile you need to get out more man, saturdat night, on the clutchcity bbs? j/k how can you pick regular season shots over a shot that got us into the finals (and won them) and smith's shot was good, but olajuwon's won us the game. ------------------ johnny "red" kerr:i'm glad the bulls did'nt draft steve francis. dan roan: why!!!!! johnny red kerr:because he would forever be compared to michael jordan.
I vote for Eddie Johnson's shot against the Jazzholes, just because it was against the Jazzholes. ------------------ Just because you're white and play basketball doesn't mean you're a Matt Bullard clone, despite idiotic accusations to the contrary. visit www.swirve.com
fro, the Rockets didn't win the season series against the Spurs that year. They won the division, but the Spurs won the season series. John Lucas was bragging about how they were the real Midwest champs since they won the season series from the Rockets, 3-2 I believe. To me, there will never be a better shot than the Kiss of Death. I can't think of many more clutch shots in league history, much less Rocket history. What makes that shot so clutch, is the Rockets were down by only 2, and didn't need a 3. He also left too much time on the clock when he took it. Hakeem was on fire that game, and throwing him the ball in the post would've surely resulted in either 2 points, a foul, or both. Had Elie missed that shot, he would've been ripped by the fans and media for ages. It was the ultimate clutch shot. Ralph's shot (pure luck) and Kenny's three don't compare, IMO. There was no pressure on Kenny -- we were down 3, and there's no shame in missing a 3-pointer that everyone knew had to be taken. ------------------ I Hate Every Bone in Your Body But Mine
Here comes Freak as always defending his boy Mario! ------------------ Just because you're white and play basketball doesn't mean you're a Matt Bullard clone, despite idiotic accusations to the contrary. visit www.swirve.com
If memory serves, the game was tied when Elie took that shot. Rudy then started the foul strategy, giving Phoenix no chance to shoot a three. ------------------
Dang, You beat me to it. The game was tied. I was screming...DON'T SHOOT, too much time is left..and then BOOM..nothing but net. A huge clutch shot in the enemies castle. Yep, that is the biggest imho. DaDakota ------------------
