Heading up to the Adirondacks tomorrow for 4 days of camping, bass fishing and beer!

Cannot wait! The weather is supposed to be perfect (mid 80's, no humidity and no rain)!

What are people doing for the 4th?

Doing a brisket over pecan wood sometime during the weekend (aww HELL YEAH Behad!), plus lots of cold beer throughout the weekend (as usual). Might head down to Galveston one of the days.

I have two briskets smoking right now, and doing two more tomorrow. Unfortunately, I won't be around for the party, because I am working Friday night.

I'll just have to console myself with double time and a half for twelve hours.

I will be doing a massive room renovation in my house.

If anyone wants to help me with some drywall, there is a NY strip and some Bud Light in it for ya. ;)

That stinks, although I hope the pay makes up for missing the party.

Behad...do you make your own rub or do you use store-bought? I usually make my own, but I may not have enough time for this one. For store bought, I love to use Stubb's rub. Stubb's makes great sauce and hot wings sauce as well.

What kind of wood do you use Behad?

Pecan, and only pecan. I've been advocating the use of pecan wood to smoke with in every barbecue thread this board has seen! :)

I only use Fiesta Brand brisket rub. HEB sells it, haven't found it anywhere else.

Pecan is good--where do you find it? I usually use oak and hickory--mesquite when I want the that tangy bite! I am definitely going to try the fiesta-rub...

You are cut from the same cloth as me Behad. Pecan is the shizzle, no doubt about it. I just need a more reliable source for it. I am going to run by Academy...they have a large selection of BBQ supplies and they just might sell pecan wood. I'll let you know.

There is a Kroger store here in LC that sells it. But, I have a huge supply from the tree my dad cut down last year. I have enough to last a couple of years.

After finally having had the wonderful opportunity of meeting RocketmanTex, seeing him type shizzle made me spit coffee on my screen.

I've checked every grocery store within a 5 mile radius of my place, and no luck. Hopefully Academy will have it. My next door neighbor has a huge pecan tree in her yard, and that's where I got my original stash from, but her son hasn't been in town to trim it in quite a while.

Since we pack bottles of wine and fussy foods like insalata caprese, we are more like yippies. At least it's a good workout with all the crap we put in our packs.
