It produced the most epic comeback in pro gaming history. It doesn't get much better than Daigo Umehara's astonishing series of exquisitely-timed parries to rally and defeat his Chun-Li playing opponent Justin Wong at the 2004 Evolution Championship Series. It's about as clutch as pro gaming gets: <iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/pS5peqApgUA?feature=player_embedded" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> it also... It launched the career of a Mega Man. Not Capcom's blue robot boy, per se, but his creator, Keiji Inafune. The acclaimed developer's first gig was designing the character portraits for the first Street Fighter. Those names aren't entirely random. It's pretty obvious that each Street Fighter character has a certain fighting style, but how did they come up with those names? Capcom let us in on a few: - Series foil Akuma was originally named Gouki ("Great Demon" in Japanese), but his name was changed for U.S. audiences as the Capcom USA team wanted to present him as an actual demon rather than a metaphorical one. So they went with Akuma (Japanese for "Devil"). Hard to say how many Americans would have noticed the difference, but they get points for trying. - Chun-Li means "Spring Beauty." - Ken's last name is Masters, derived from his 'mastery' of the fighting arts. It's got character. Lots of 'em. Though the original Street Fighter had only a dozen characters (including Ryu and Ken), the designers have worked overtime cranking out new ones. Taken together, there are over 66 playable characters in the Street Fighter universe. It marked Raul Julia's final film appearance. Yes, the 1994 Street Fighter movie was a train wreck, but it had one very bright spot: Raul Julia. The acclaimed actor was praised for his portrayal of Street Fighter antagonist General M. Bison, even nabbing a posthumous Saturn Award nomination. Link to story What are your favorite moments of Street Fighter?
Character names -- M. Bison's name is actually Vega in the Japenese version. Balrog is actually named Mike Bison. Vega is actually named Balrog. And who can forget Zangief being able to decimate his opponents in a few moves after getting whooped for most of a match. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/QQa4_fQnuuE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Anyone else picking up the 25th Anniversary Collector's Set? I've had mine preordered for months. http://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/...th-anniversary-collector-s-set-announced.aspx
20 years ago I used to run the entire arcade. Had to keep inserting quarters after every match so I could unlock Sheng Long then it was on. I dominated with Sheng Long.
Favorite memory: Biking to Stop and Go almost daily when i was 9-10 to play Street Fighter 2 and kicking anyone's ass who dared to go against me using Guile. It was a cheap time killer to clear the game on a single quarter. Over the years I switched to Ken though.
used to whip ass at bida tran on scarsdale as a kid..(plus the machine didn't have cigarette burns all over it and the buttons were fresh.) didn't realize until later it was a vietnamese mafia hangout. I always wondered why they didn't have pockets on the pool tables. lol The old dudes were cool and their kids always wanted to play us cause we showed them tricks.. like the Guile glitch before it was removed.
I wasted many hours on this game. If only I had been hitting the books instead, I would've became something more
<center>WHAT STRENGTH!! BUT DON'T FORGET THERE ARE MANY GUYS LIKE YOU ALL OVER THE WORLD!</center> Tiger Upper Cut!!!! From where can I order the set?
I made a plan to get great at Street Fighter starting with Street Fighter 4 then they released Super Street Fighter 4 three month later.... I remember playing with Sean during the 3rd strike edition simply because he was a basketball player and one of his moves was a jump shot that hurt the opponent if the ball hit them. I also thought the double fist dragon punch looked pretty cool.
