As some of you know, I just graduated from college. When I started, I remember all the people who said "these 4 years will be the best of your life." I hope not ;). But last summer, in particular, was really wonderful. And I'm just starting to look back on how great it really was.

I stayed in Boston, instead of going home, so for the first time I was on my own without school. I had an easy research job, and no real responsibilities. My girlfriend (now fiancee) wanted to stay in town as well, so she moved in with me for the summer. Everything was relaxing and fun. Everything went right, and I didnt have anything to worry about... but I still managed to stay away from boredom.

Perhaps it all seems even more idyllic in the face of 9/11. Those summer months seem so... wonderfully innocent in the face of what was to come shortly after. And, now, I'm getting ready for law school at UT. Which most alumni I've talked to have assured me is hell-on-earth. And after that, I have no frickin' clue what I want...

so I'm looking back, and counting my blessings for getting to have that summer.

Anybody else have a time in their lives like that to share?

for me, the 4 years of college truly were the greatest time of my life... especially my senior year... good friends, lots of partying, spring break in mexico, went to mardi gras in new orleans, fell in and out of love... it was not only a fun time, but the most memorable as well... now that i'm out of college, i look back and reminisce about all the good times i had... now its just work, work, work... well it WOULD be, if i hadn't recently been laid off!!! :(

I am in the middle of college right now, and while the last 2 years have been fun as hell and I've done nothing but party my ass off, I think high school was the happiest I've ever been. School was easier then s*** (at least mine was), and you dont really have anything to worry about, everything was taken care of. In college there are far more responsibilities to deal with. College has been a blast but if I could go back to my junior and senior year of high school and re-live them again, I would do it in a second.

i know i dont live this life like anyone else. im quiet reclusive and i overthink everything. and i no really deep down. i could be the type of person who could have alot of friends and party all the time, if i just let myself go, said f*** it and just didnt care about what anyone else thought. with that being said...

...the happiest moment of my life...

high school, sophmore year. i had a spanish class. i went to an all guys school, but there was an all girls school nearby that had some of their classes over with us. and vice versa.
there was class right next to ours, it was a junior and senior spanish class. and this one time as i walking out of class i saw this beautiful girl looking right at me with these bright blue eyes. i looked at her, and looked away, and then looked back to see if she was still staring. she was. i looked away again. and looked back. still staring. this happened alot. most of the times i saw her. she was perfect in my mind. so id see her off and on never saying anything. the next year, it was the end of the year, and i had P.E. class. so i was walking across the parking lot to the gym. she was a senior by then, so they were taking their exams a week before we would take ours. so she had finished her test or whatever, i was walking to PE. and it started raining. and i looked over, and i saw her get into a red firebird or corvette or something with her friend and drive away. she didnt see me. but it was a perfect moment. that one moment more than any of the others. i guess because i was about to play basketball with my friends for an hour and think about her, or because i was so young, and i could wonder if i was ever going to talk to her. having my whole life ahead of me. alot of reasons. but that one moment walking to PE in the rain, and seeing her drive away. that was the greatest moment of my life?...i sure freaking hope there are better moments to come. but up till now. yes.

eventually i would talk to her. i wrote her a letter, and mailed it to her telling her how i felt. i wouldnt have done this but someone told me that she had asked about me. i got her phone number called her. she went away and modeled in tokyo. wrote me letters. sent me postcards. she went to NYU. i was a senior in high school. that christmas break i called her. we went out together, that one time. the first time i had talked to her face to face. i drove to her house. we went to a park. we went to the waterwall. we went and saw "the man on the moon" starring jim freaking carrey. but it was all weird then. when i first called her, i thought she had a weird voice.. i didnt fully appreciate her till i couldnt talk to her anymore. "when its over, thats the time i fall in love again." -sugar ray. so i went home emailed her a couple times till college. i think i probably b****ed to much to her, like i b**** too much to you guys. she stopped emailing me back. shes on a television show now. http://www.alexisbledel.org/ thats her although that wasnt her name when i knew her. i guess shes my type. and i mean geez i dont know i try to stop thinking about it. i really can forget about it. but then i turn on the damn tv and there she is. anyway...i did start rambling a little... but when i was walking to the gym and saw her get into the car in the rain. that was the greatest moment. and let me tell you something. i thought that right after it happened and up until now, not when she got on tv. and by the way, in previous posts when i have refferred to a girl that has screwed me over, it wasnt her it was someone else.

Holden why do you run around the BBS exposing your soul to all those who are present? please shut up.

hey, also last weekend when i came home from a fishing trip, i turned on the tv and marv albert said "....and so the houston rockets will have the number one pick" i started running around the house and jumping up and down.

f*** it that was the greatest moment of my life.

sorry i was thinking more brief "moment" not "long period of time"
long period of time. my childhood. you cant be sad when youre a little kid, you just watch mr rogers, and everything is cool.

you know in "swingers" when he calls the girl on the phone and gets her answering machine? he leaves a message, but it cuts him off so he calls back. then he doesnt like what he says so he calls back. and he does it over and over. i feel like that alot on here when i post. i keep forgetting to say something and i want go back and fix it with another post. i usually dont though.

Holden -- don't sweat it...your posts are always interesting...you are very well in touch with your feelings, and that's a good thing. most people live their lives never really in touch with their feelings..it spurs passion, and that's a nice way to live.

The only time in my life I really didn't enjoy all that much was junior high...but i have some very funny moments from there too.

high school was an absolute blast...met "the love of my life" (or at least who i thought it was at the time!)...hung out with my friends all the time...started driving -- which was a huge deal!..

college was unreal...independence...met my wife...met a ton of new friends...the rockets won two championships!...

law school was a pain in the butt...but i was newly married..and that was fun. my wedding and my honeymoon carry great memories..

but nothing compares to the birth of my son...nothing at all. from the initial, "ok, we're trying to have a baby" decision to the first time we saw him on ultrasound..to the first kick...to the pregnancy classes at the hospital...i was in Pasadena taking the bar exam three days before he was born..i got out of the bar exam and called my wife saying, "am i a dad yet?" my wife responded, "not yet..but you better get home soon!" that sunday, i woke up and went to church...there was a baptism that morning of a baby born to some friends of ours...my wife stayed home..her mom was in town and she needed to rest...i got home, and we called the doctor....the doctor told us we needed to go ahead and check into the hospital. some 7 hourse after we checked in, a baby was born. i started to mist up big time as i saw him for the first time...and got to hold him...and helped clean him up...and then handed him to my wife...and with my arm around her, we stared at this new little person. absolutely amazing! my time with him has been so precious...i'm reminded of the scene of "my life" where Michael Keaton looks on his new son sleeping and is thanking God for allowing him to live long enough to meet his son...he says, "it was nice to meet you," to his son...couldn't say it better than that really. the last two years of my life, with my son and my wife, have been amazing.

Whenever someone mentions UT or Austin, I always smile -- some of the best years/experiences of my life were at UT/in Austin. (I suppose most people look back at their time in college fondly.)

(It doesn't hurt that UT has one of the premier law programs, the football team will be competing for a national title, and the school is one of the most liberal campuses in the South.)

For me, there aren't many moments that can compare to the cool, winter mornings in Austin, on the second floor of a two-story building, with the front door open, sitting on the balcony, reading a book and watching people pass by...

I remember my first weeks at UT. I was homesick and I would rarely leave my room. Looking back, I wish I had been more friendly instead of a loner. Slowly I did come out of my shell. Senior year of high school was fun, but I'm sure senior year of college will be even better. I may join haven, but I understand this may be my last year in Austin.

The summer of 95, I was living in Jackson Hole Wyo. Rock climbing every day, playing ball every day. working a fun job and watching the rockets win their second championship. it does not get much better than that. Plus it was the first time I was away from home.

I learned a lot that summer, I was getting ready for college, and college ball, I meet these two guys from michigan that were all americans in college. they taught me a lot of old school stuff that really helped me that year. I also met a guy that played for the spurs, he also showed me a lot about b-ball. To be honest I learned more about playing the game that summer than I did the next two years in college,:( .

Rock climbing really made me mentally tougher than I was, its taxing mentally and if you lose concentration you are off the mountain. I was having so much fun there was no time for girls it was just me and my boys having fun in Jackson Hole.

The one bad part of the summer was when DMB and Big head todd and the monsters came to town and we could not get tickets. So we went to widespread painc instead. Other than that it was the best time of my life.

College. 2000 to 2001 was the best, but it was all great! I really wish I could go back and do it all over again. Judging by people's common response that college is the best time, I am kindof saddened because it will never happen again. Almost like it's all downhill from here . . .

That was an excellent story Holden. I'm sure there are better times to come for you.

Oh, and I was wondering the same thing as tozai. I know sTh isn't near any girls' schools, and St. Johns isn't either (if I'm not mistaken), but SJ and St. Agnes are right next to eachother.

Did you go to Strake tozai?

I'm a junior at UT and no doubt I have had a lot of great memories even in one year.

My favorite thing is getting to participate in the on campus tv station, KVR-TV, plus having kicka** athletic programs rules.

Since I'm aspring to be a sports broadcaster or announcer in the near future it is very fun and helpful. My favorite part was getting to be on the set of my show, the College Pressbox, 9:30 p.m on channel 15, KVR-TV. Sorry for the shameless plug :)

Also, got smart and purchased UT football season tickets last week.

However, my best moment ever was when I was a sophomore in high school our baseball team which I was a student assistant on got to play Bellaire in the Dome. They were ranked #1 nationally and statewide like Elkins this year, but we defied the odds and won a game in our 3 game series. They only lost twice that year, but we were one of them. Also, I definitely was very ancy in the late innings with the caliber of team they had. Getting on TV for celebrating didn't hurt either.

Right now I'm chilling at home over the summer in houston and about to go to Astros Field and watch Roy Oswalt lead the Astros to Victory over the Evil St. Louis Cardinals.

is anyone's "happiest time of their life" after college???? since i graduated from UT 2 years ago, my life has been dull, dull, dull!!!

running, work, watch ESPN, go to bed! its so freakin' mundane! is there anything to look forward to???

Please don't say marraige and children, because i'm not interested in that. Now sure that may change 10 years down the road, but i highly doubt that.

anyone have a post college/pre-marraige "happiest time of their life"??

I'm so excited for you haven. You'll love it. Hook em.

I would say my happiest moments were when I had a girlfriend. But, I've always had rocky relationships with chicks. I don't know. Hmmm....I guess I'm really not happy right now. I'm grateful, but not happy yet. I think the day I get married is when I'll be most happy. I've certainly had fun in college.

I would have to say the best time was from 1993-1995 my freshman and sophmore years in high school.

No responsibility, no job, just basketball.

All I did every day after school was hoop and then all summer we played the whole day. I mean the whole day, 6-8 hours. Good Times.

School was so easy. I had PE and got to play basketball everyday.

The Rockets were King of the world and there was no BBS to sap all my time. :)
