Since at least half of the resolutions included getting more fit, post here about your plans and progress. Personally, I'm going to continue on a paleo eating plan (don't eat processed/modern food [bread/milk/wheat products/sugar]) and continue going with something I just started a couple weeks ago: simplefit. SimpleFit is like a crossfit workout that you can do at home. It's a complete workout plan that consists of circuit training with functional full-body exercises. All you need is a pull-up bar and 20 minutes or less three times a week. Anyway, my stats as of 1/1/2009: Age: 35 - 182 pounds, 17% BF, vert 24". I'd like to improve the last 3 stats. How are you all going to get to your goals?
I love how after new years a ridiculus amount of diet commercials or weight loss plan commercials show up on tv, they know how to sell there stuff I just really want a six pack, right now i work out about 2 1/2 hours everyday, 1 hour cardio, and 1 1/2 weight training...im going to continue that for now...
I'm considering buying the p90x system, but then I'd have to buy dumbbells. A set of 50 lbs powerblocks costs hundreds of dollars. If any of y'all know some cheaper adjustable dumbbell sets, let me know. The bodyweight exercise system you mentioned above is interesting. I'd like to just do bodyweight exercises so that I can keep up the workout when on the road. The Matt Furey Combat Conditioning book is interesting.
Idk...just got to stay motivated...i think eventually ur body gets used to it...but i rotate weight training...i work out a different part of the body on different days.
You should be careful of overtraining... you might have the mental capacity to keep going, but if you aren't eating healthy and RESTING (No one ever remembers to REST!) enough, all the workouts in the world won't make you fitter. For me, it's hitting the gym six days a week, Mondays are arm days with mild cardio, Tuesdays hardcore cardio, Wed core/back, Thurs more hardcore cardio, Fri legs, Sat more cardio, Sun rest day. You guys should try it, it works very well, and the workouts usually work out to about an hour per day. Happy New Year's!
I got the iron gym for Christmas (the perfect pullup thing on tv). I'll be even more shredded in no time
Can't you get the resistance cables instead? Also, a chin up bar is an important part of P90X. You can get a nice set of dumbbells if you look on craigslist. I think I got my set for about 100 bucks.
I've got to drop 10-15 pounds for my spring soccer season -- two days of weight training and two days of cardio per week with healthier eating habits should do the trick. Also going to going to start playing tennis more seriously - hoping to join some sort of tennis ladder/ league.
Everyday? Your body needs rest otherwise it won't grow. I also work out 2 hours at the gym, but I only go at most 3 or 4 times a week. I used to think going every day was best, but then some better developed athletes in the gym talked sense into me. It might be counter intuitive to purposely stay resting at home, while you feel like working out, but it is very important.
Yea, taking days off for rest is critical for growth. Also, just remember guys, working out the abs really only push out your stomach. To see that six pack, you gotta cut out the fat.
I just started my P90X workout today and man I'm spent. I can't wait to finish this program, because I've been working out for several years, but it was mostly strength training in basically the same exercises. The past 6 months I started doing a playground style work out just to mix it up and I'm starting to see results. P90X should bring that change much faster.
Pretty much since the hurricane I've been on a downward trajectory, somehow I gained about 15 pounds in 3 months, no bueno! So I'm considering doing a couple of things to reverse this trend and spice things up a bit. I'll be doing a structured meal regiment from the custom foods kitchen, My Fit Foods, as well as trying out a few months at CrossFit in the heights.
I've never had trouble staying motivated: I work out 5 days a week first thing in the morning before work. I usually try to change the program ever 4-6 months, but I have always stayed with a dumbbell and cardio program. I've decided to really change things now. I started working out with kettlebells on Monday. It is really different and tough.
Yeah, kettlebells are fun. I plan to sub them in next week on simplefit. I have a 35 lb and a 50 lb bell - what do you have?
Totally agree about getting proper rest, especially when you get older. I try to work out a little in the morning, pushups and situps, and then work out at Judo practice three times a week. When it gets warmer I also run and bike but hard to do that in winter in minnesota. I'm planning on trying to come back and compete in a couple of Judo tournaments this spring and also running a 7.5 mile road race in May.
Over the past 4 months, I have gained 15 lbs of muscle (weightlifting) while going down in body fat count. My waist size is down to 33 (from 36). I will be continuing my efforts and I intend to gain another 20 lbs of muscle, preferably by March. This is not a New Years resolution. Just something I'm doing.
