brianmctaggart Hampton underwent surgery today, which showed full tear of labrum. Won't pitch at all in 2010. I have to think he's done.

I know he basically stunk this year but he was a huge factor in the 90s Astros division winners and was a dominant starter in 99. The memory that sticks out in my mind is that game in 94 I believe when we were down 11-0 to the Cards and Bulldog came in to give us 4 shutout innings which allowed us to rally and overcome the Cards to win 15-13. I could tell he had great talent just needed to put it togathar, sound familiar (Wandy?) and watching Hampton with the Mets in 2000 was bittersweet yet I was happy the guy was pitching in a WS.

Sucks to go out that way. He was a huge part of what the Astros did in the 90's.

Injuries have got to be a terrible way to end your career.

Dude was legit a decade (and more) ago.

A shame. He was a nice piece of our 1990's teams. Didn't he have some kinda radical platelet injection in his shoulder a while back though?

Without a doubt, one of the best hitting and fielding pitchers of this era, and a heck of a groundball pitcher in his prime. Enjoyed him as an Astro.
