Instead, he claims that he's joining the Grizzlies.

I thought it was a bad idea that the kid's first American experience will involve so much losing and negativity on a minor league team. He needs to understand America is not like that.

Stern needs to make sure Hamed rides with an actual NBA franchise.

When did he say he gave up on his dream? Anyways, most rookies or young guys go to bad teams. Hamed is no different.

I thought that it was said not to talk to Iranian players because of our embargo with them. I guess Memphis didn't get the memo.

I don't think he can join the Grizzles even though they are based in Canada.

While the Grizzles organization is not officially based in the US, the overall corporation of the NBA is, and they can prevent him from joining the league.

I got a good chuckle out of this. He should look at this as a good opportunity, if he does well in Memphis maybe an actual NBA team will sign him to play on their DL team, then who knows?

It's actually smart of him to pick a bad team. It means he'll get a lot of playing time and inflate his stats for a season or two, then jump on to a contender when his (assuming) short-term contract is over.
