First off lemme preface by saying I don't think there's a better Live experience than Halo...in the past and in the present (for a console).

But in my limited time playing multiplayer so far (I've tested the waters but I'm still focusing on campaign right now), I have found some annoyances....

The biggest one is that the battle rifle is the default starting weapon in slayer games...that has utterly pissed me off....why? The battle rifle to me is pretty useless as a weapon...I never cared for it much in Halo 1, opting for the far more effective pistol. It's a decent close to medium range weapon that has hardly any accuracy...basically it's a good weapon for beginners who don't have any aim. IMO, the assault rifle from Halo 2 is the best all around weapon in the game...it's good at short, medium and long range (because of the scope) but is not overpowered since it fires in short bursts....it allows me to go for the quicker headshot kills and allows for more precision and accuracy...THAT SHOULD BE THE DEFAULT STARTING WEAPON. And it pisses me off that they changed it..now I'm gonna have to adjust to the battle rifle, which probably is worse than dual wielding the smgs.

My other annoyance is when you have friends playing split screen in your account....for whatever stupid reason your friends can't create their own profiles on your system unless you have multiple controllers...I was trying to let my friend play the other day but he has a different control scheme so he wanted to create a profile but couldn't because at the time I had only one controller...and then when you can create a profile, they can't even give themselves names (which I know it doesn't matter for Live, but it does for LAN and split screen games). Now maybe I'm missing something here, but if I am, then it seems to me they made things a little more complicated than they needed to....

...speaking of complicated, those postgame stat screens for Halo 2 were nice; a quick and easy way to check your stats...sure I like the in depth nature of the screens now, but it's annoying to have to go through another screen or two to get to it. And then the automatic countdown to another game...I dont' want to be thrust into another game right away...and if I do, I'd like to do it on my own accord...I was looking at my stats for a game and then all of a sudden I was thrust into another game not knowing the countdown was still going...so I have to go back to the lobby to check my stats if I don't wanna get stuck in that countdown.

These are just minor annoyances...I know I'll get used to it in time...but still...they could have simplified things a bit...and give me back my assault rifle!!

I'm still crying about the drop of the scope from the pistol in the first Halo.. :(

uh, I think you have that backwards Junk...the Battle Rifle is the gun with a scope and fires in bursts only

the Assault Rifle is the fully automatic gun, that sucks at long range

    Huh?

The battle rifle is the one with the scope. That might be my favorite weapon in the game.

Oops my bad...I was right the first time before my friend wrongly corrected me that the assuault rifle was from Halo 2....so battle rifle I like...that should be the starting weapon....assault rifle NO!

The assault rifle is better than in Halo 1 but still kind of sucks, I agree. My pet peeve is that melee is too strong. I both get and am killed by cheap melee kills (fire a few shots, run up, administer a love-tap with the but of your rifle and boom, dead). I probably have as many of those kills as anything else.

Isn't this coming out for the PC? I enjoy the PC version of FPS's a lot more than console.

I just don't enjoy the aiming mechanisms of FPS console games.

Pressing the d-pad to speak is ridiculous as well.

Wait, so that's how it is? Ive noticed that when Im in a slayer match with 3 of my buddies, we can just talk like normal...but when we have like 5 or 6 people, we cant hear each other when the game starts.

So you have to push it and hold it to talk?

Probably at some point, although it could be a little while given the releases for Halo and Halo 2 for the PC.

I agree. This has been my biggest pet peeve of Halo for a while. Close combat melee killing should not be a large part of a game's strategy. I realize it seems kind of silly for two guys in a small room to be strafing around each other shooting automatic weapons, but that at least requires some skill whereas the melee killing you just have to get close to them and the auto-lunge forward or whatever does the rest.

Yeah if you are in a team social or whatever, you have to press a direction pad on the dpad to speak. It lasts for a few seconds. Very annoying.

I actually like the melee..if only because it saved my ass the first time I played multiplayer on Halo 3...I had that stupid assault rifle and couldn't ever find the battle rifle...so the melee basically saved me. But I agree it can be cheap...I don't know how many times I initiated a melee attack or threw a grenade or released the trigger only to be beat down...even though I know I released the button in time.

Hey at least they put a charge meter on the energy sword in multiplayer (even though I loved the energy sword from 2).

I will say that I do like the needler now...they finally got that weapon right...the choice of weapons is pretty big...the maps look pretty solid (except for a few of the forerunner/covenant maps that remind me of Colossus or Gemini from 2 (I hated those two).

Anybody use the elephant on Sandtrap? I was checking out all the maps the other day and noticed that behemoth...looks like it could be fun to use in teamplay.

i hate how it goes to 4:3 mode during split screen and you have to change the xbox settings to normal.

Yes, I played a 16-man team slayer match on Sandtrap fromt he Social Big Team Battle playlist - it was crazy fun. Basically everybody driving vehicles around and blowing the crap out of each other with all hte heavy weapons. In those matches eventualy the two elephants drive around the map and crash into each other and become a huge zone of destruction. CTF on Sandtrap is fun too because the Flags are in the Elephants.
