Chronicle said Dream looked great in practice...has his jump hook back, w/ loads of elevation. Hopefully, he's regained some fire as well...it sounds like he has. http://www.chron.com/content/story.html/sports/bk/bkn/426822 [This message has been edited by Nick (edited January 11, 2000).]
great article, it's good to see that Dream's back in form. Although I'm in the lottery mindset, it'll be good to see poetry play. a couple of questions about the article: first off, what the hell does this mean? Asked how the team felt to see Olajuwon back on the court, Tomjanovich said, "If you're home alone, and your big brother comes home, do you feel better? Depends what you're doing when you're home alone." next: Olajuwon said he feels stronger than before the injury. doesn't dream always feel stronger after rehab from an injury than he did before the injury? is he superman now? what gives?
Achebe, my favorite quote: "I have to get used to shooting down at the basket." that makes me giddy. A jumping Hakeem for the first time in three years. That should help the defense, don't you think!
heypartner, that makes me ecstatic. I can't wait to see silly teams like the sonics that have no reason to be dominating us down low... get shut down like they deserve. Now, if his conditioning gets him down the court, whoa. he and cato should be scaring the watuzzies out of some teams.
oh thanks alot bob dole. j/k if dream only plays 20-25 minutes, then hopefully he'll be ok... if he gets injured again (more seriously than a 'flu') then I have to assume he'll be taking the retirement road.
Achebe, I'll take a stab at deciphering Rudy's quote. Seems to me that what he means is that you're probably happy to see your big brother when he returns if you've done your chores and homework. If you've been sneaking nips from Grandpa's "cold medicine" and shooting hamsters out the window using a slingshot, maybe not. As it applies to the Rockets, probably, it means that the guys would be a lot happier to get Hakeem back if they'd managed to scrape by at .500 without him. Since we've had about as much success without him as you'd have if you tried to clean your silverware by microwaving it, maybe we're not quite as happy. I'm not gonna say it makes a whole lot of sense, necessarily. But that's pretty much how I interpreted it. ------------------ A broken coffeepot in the dishwasher is worth five stitches in the wrist.
The funniest line in the article was Bullard's when he said that Hakeem would have to learn all the new plays.
Sounds Good. So Mon Junior GMs . . . What if the New and Improved Hakeem wants to add a Year or two to his contract? What do we do . . . . What do we do? Rocket River just making it interesting.
Didn't they say the same thing when he got back from knee surgery last year?? He still seems to hesitate when putting pressure on that knee. Hopefully, this doesn't cause another injury. ------------------ Ciao!
I was also puzzled by Rudy's quote. I was afraid he he might have been making a veiled reference to shifting the offense from the low post to the periphery game. Bullard's comment about learning the new plays added a little support to that. I'm afraid it might mean that Rudy intends to keep the focus of the offense at the guard positions and make Dream take a back seat. But I'm sure that's just paranoia caused by reading too much clutch-city BBS. Right?
That was music to my ears.I didn't want Dream to go out the way he was.It sure sounds like we might see some of those UNBEATABLE moves again. It warms my heart to read this...............ALRIGHT! Dream will ALWAYS be the man in MY book. Thanks for the info.
Let me add Juan... Hakeem must be featured in this offense. But we do have new ways to get him scoring. I look forward to a little of dish and a little of dash to surround Hakeems imposing arsenal of 5-18" shooting. You know that double pick we've been using with Bullard. That will be Hakeem now (we did it pre-injury). Also the Mobley ISO, it will be complemented by Hakeem at the key for the 18"-er should they double Mobley. Also, the high post play to Rogers where cutters run past him both ways for a hand-off. It's effectiveness goes up several notches if Hakeem could handle the ball and make an hand-off or follow a cutter into the lane. I will say: Hakeem's passing skills do worry me when it comes to involving him in high-post plays.
All I want is some easy offense generated by outstanding defense!! Learn to be more greedy, Fromobile. It'll be refreshing.
I think I know what Rudy ment. It means this big bully down the block named Malone threatens to pulverize your brains cause you told him not to punch on girls and then your BIG Brother named Hakeem comes home and looks out the window and the big bully Malone goes running back to his mama as fast as his tight little ass can take him. That what it means.... : )......
