Hakeem in his prime vs. Hurricane Katrina in her prime -- who wins? I'm not talking about the old tired category 3 Katrina that made landfall but the monster Cat 5 roaring across the gulf.

I'm thinking Hakeem drops 50+ with around 20 boards -- in the process Dream destroys the eye wall causing Katrina to foul out before half time.

Katrina had a stellar supporting cast that season, being backed up by an All-Star duo in Rita and Wilma; Hakeem only had great role players as help until Glide came along..

On individual merit, Hakeem in five.

This is a strong point as Hakeem would often be triple teamed by three of the most powerful hurricanes ever recorded.

Wilma is often underrated but was actually the strongest of the 3 canes.

I think Hakeem's quickness would cause wind shear particularly between Wilma and Katrina ~ advantage Hakeem.

granted that katrina's supporting cast was much stronger than hakeem's but they didn't always show up at the same time. otoh, hakeems' supporting cast, however weaker, always showed up with him.

Hurricane Rita was the weak link ~ the David Robinson of the group. A demoralized and weakened Rita actually avoided Houston all together because a retired Hakeem called Houston home. If Hakeem is in his prime Rita is making a big time right turn and heading for Florida.

The problem with Hurricane Katrina's team would be the infighting. Hurricane Rita would argue that she should be the star, as she was the most powerful Gulf Hurricane ever. She'd argue that the only reason Katrina got the notoriety was because her opponent was unprepared. Teamwork would suffer. Wilma would be upset by being a star and still overshadowed. She'd sulk and ask for a trade. Obviously, since Hakeem would be the clear and undisputed leader of his team, the rest of the team would work to help him. Hakeem would understand Katrina's frustration a couple of years later when Pippen joined him.

Instead of going completely nuts and saying anything crazy, I'll try to explain to you why this is offensive.

You realize this happened just last year and over 1,000 people died in horrific ways. Secondly, we are in Houston, not far from New Orleans. Did you stop and realize that some posters here may have known or even have family that went through or actually died because of this hurricane?

I'm not into the causing an uproar over stuff like this and getting pissed, because I'm sure the threadstarter doesn't realizes the pain it causes for some people.

But, more to the point, what was the point of the thread? Was it necessary to take Hurricane Katrina? Why a hurricane where thousands of people died? Why not a harmless hurricane? I believe, this thread was started to see who would get mad at him for making this thread and to start a debate over whether it is ok to use the hurricane in this way. It was really uncalled for either way.

    Van Gundier;

I did a lot of work on Katrina relief and was down in NOLA and Mississippi this time last year doing damage assessment. That said I don't find this thread offensive. I can see how some would but I don't think this thread is making fun of the victims or the recovery but mocking the hurricane itself. When I was in NOLA last year there were a lot of T-shirts in the same spirit. I see this like making fun of Osama Bin Ladin as opposed to making fun of 9/11.

OK...how about Hakeem vs the great Tsunami! In it's prime, of course, which ironically is also the same time that it was washed up. Weird isn't it.

You know what, I see what you are saying, but being able to laugh at it is somewhat contingent on you not actually relating to what happened.

I look at it as if it was my family could've been in the storm. Now that I think about it, I did have some family who left before the storm hit thank goodness. They are somewhat distant family, but it hits closer to home than someone that doesn't have any sort of attachment to the storm.

I do realize though, that he was not speaking of the actual storm that hit landfall and that he did not mean any ill towards anyone, but the storm he was speaking did eventually kill 1,000's so....there has to have been a better comparison he could have come up with is all that I'm saying.

?? Is there some sort of need or obsessive want to relate Hakeem to storms that kill 1,000's of people?

Relating him to something else wouldn't have the same impact I suppose?

So...what is the difference between this thread and the asinine ones you make? It's like if anyone else tries to make a satirical thread about other threads on here, you get snippy. But if YOU do it, it's always "it's sarcasm man!"

I suppose you are trying to find an event that is acceptable to compare him to where people die...
