We were all so relieved to find out that Hakeem had a physical problem that could EASILY be treated with medication.

We heard Hakeem stopped taking it because it made him sick.

Now, he is out for the rest of the year with the same problem.

If Hakeem comes back next year and refuses to take his medication and we have to deal with another entire season of Hakeem and his "fatigue", he is screwing us over.

Yes, Dream made the Rockets, but if he comes back next year for $16 million and plays this game again, I for one will lose a lot of respect for Olajuwon. Will you feel the same?

I don't see that happening. I think Dream has enough respect for the game that if he can't play, he won't be on the team next year. $16 mil or no $16 mil.

But, if he takes the medication and is too 'sick' to perform on the basketball court is he STILL "screwing" us?

It sounds like you feel he's taking it out of your pocket.

    Hey Rocket Freak,

That is what contracts are for in life.

So that you have financial security at the date of the signing and can count on that money when making lifetime decisions.

What...do you not think every top executive whose wives require big houses and big budgets and whose kids need good schools and big trust funds hasn't negotiated a golden parachute payable regardless to whether they perform to stockholder expectations.

This is life, man. The Rockets had the opportunity to negotiate a buy-out % into the contract, but they chose not to. They must pay...as far as I'm concerned.

The man who said "Giv me da ball"
I say Gets da Money. This is business...case closed.

    Dreamer,

So I guess there is nothing that can be done. If he takes his medication, he gets sick (and can't play). If he doesn't take it, he can't breathe (or play). Atleast we get another year of hearing all the announcers talking about the '95 playoffs and how great Dream USED to be.

    HeyFartner,

Are you saying Hakeem isn't financially secure? And if he does just hanging around to collect his $16 mill, I will lose all respect for him.

Screw the salary cap. I would rather pay him the cash and have him sitting at home watching the game then sitting on the bench and watching the game.

If he cannot physically play, he must retire. We don't need any washed up shadow slowing down our future.

And "this is a business..cased closed". O.K. so it's a business when it comes to Dream making money but it's anything but that when it comes to trading his relic ass.

Hakeem is like a 15 year old dog. He still wants to play with the kids and thinks he can, but after about 5 minutes he's looking for a spot in the shade.

Hopefully Hakeem, Francis, and Wizard will screw us all the way to a title next year.

I never thought of that nick- good ONE!

    OH!

if Hakeem at least plays well enuff to play as a backup, i say keep him for next year. We have no frontcourt depth anyways.

For most of this year, he has not performed good enuff to be qualified as an aadequate backup.

But, Im pretty sure that if he gets a handle on this asthma thing, that he can make a semi-comeback.
