I believe Hakeem is a better player than Charles Barkley and I think the majority of the NBA and NBA fans would agree. I was wondering who you all think will be most remembered by Rocket fans? Say 15 years down the line who will I be telling my kids about, Hakeem or Charles? This is hard for me to say but I believe that I would probably choose Hakeem. ------------------ Arkansas' Biggest Rocket Fan!
I don't. I think Charles was better then Hakeem at times and Hakeem was better at Charles at times. I don't believe Hakeem is a better player then Charles. Charles had alot more fire than Hakeem I think and also he was a better rebounder and dribbler. Hakeem though played way better defense. ------------------ Walt the Wizard Williams. Comparing Barkley to DREAM as a Rocket??? are you serious? if you can't make this decision, I don't think I'm even going to help you. -Elie17 ------------------
Hakeem wont ever be remembered as an all time great. Maybe here in Houston he will be...But he has absolutely no personality or fire. (maybe back in the day he did)... ...I might be biased, but as far as an NBA fan goes...Charles will be remembered much more than Hakeem. ------------------ The Chuckwagon came, saw, and threw people through windows!
are you kidding me????? Did you guys see what Dream did to Robinson? What he did to shaq? His dreamshake was rated the BEST move by Sports Illustrated. MJ's fade-away came 2nd. Please... Dream's accomplished alot more than Barkley, and that speaks volumes. Of course, i'm not saying Barkley was a slouch. No bigman EVER had the footwork, the Post-up and the Jumper like Hakeem. I.e. Malone has the jumper, but he isn't a REAL post-up player. -Elie17 ------------------
Honestly in Houston it will always be Dream. No doubt about it. Around the NBA is a different thought altogether. Charles will be remebered more around the league because of what he did on the court, off the court and what he said. Outside of Houston, and Houston fans, Charles will always be remembered, Dream may fade away more than anyoine thinks just because after he retires he will be out of the spotlight, unlike Chuck who will stay in broadcasting. ------------------
I agree with 4chuckie. In Houston Dream will never be forgotten for bringing 2 championship here(maybe the only 2 we will ever have). But, around the world, Charles will be remembered because of his personality and he will still be on TV some and will probably be on the news again for throwing someone thru a window or something. ------------------
The question is directed to Rocket fans - my answer is Hakeem. Not only in skills but also by tenure. Hakeem is a Rocket much longer than Charles. Concerning skills, remember Chuck went head to head with Dream in the playoffs and Hakeem's Rockets won the series against Charles' Suns ------------------
OT, "...bringing 2 championship here(maybe the only 2 we will ever have)." Don't forget, the Comets are currently on a three championship winning streak - going for 4. On the subject... the question is who will be best remembered by Rocket fans. How can you even suggest that Barkley (as great as he is) could supplant The Dream in the memories of Houston fans? The debate could rage on indefinately about which of the two is the better player (or more memorable player) in general but, in the minds of Houstonians... come on! Right, Elie17? ------------------ work like you don't need the money dance like no one's watching love like you've never been hurt
Maybe.... Hakeem led the league in rebounding twice and (I think) has more career rebounds. Rebounding was a bigger part of Chuck's game. Hakeem spent a lot of time shooting fadeaways and blocking shots that carried him away from the basket instead of towards it. That's why it's rare to see the same person among the leaders in blocks *and* rebounding, as Hakeem has done several times. And to see the same person among the leaders in blocks, rebounders, and *steals* is almost unheard of. I say "almost" because Hakeem did it routinely. He is the ONLY PERSON in the NBA's top 25 in BOTH steals and blocks, and the only center in the top 10 (at least) all time in steals. Amazing. No question Hakeem had the better all-around game, and anyone who doesn't consider Hakeem one of the greats of the game is an idiot. You may not think he's the best center, or in the top 10 or whatever, but only an idiot would try to claim he's not AMONG THE GREATEST players ever. ------------------ If you don't remember the ABA, you don't know basketball.
ChrisP, Thanx for backing me up.. The question was whether we, as Rockets fans would remember Dream or Barkley more in 15 years. I say I'll remember both, but definitely Dream the More. Hakeem has been our franchise player since he came to Houston. Sure, born in Nigeria, but I think many Houstonians claim him to be the son of H-town. Phi Slamma Jamma--> NBA hall-of-famer He started and will end in Houston, and being that we are Rockets fans, I think we'll be remember Hakeem more. ------------------
OT, don't let it happen again. Elie17, I got your back - take it to the hole! Once again, you're right on. peace -c ------------------ work like you don't need the money dance like no one's watching love like you've never been hurt
Barkley who? ------------------ Respect Hakeem's legacy. A championship in the hand is worth two in the bush!!
If it makes you guys feel better, I can tell you this. I listen to the sports radio station everyday and when the subject comes up about the 10 best players EVER, Olajuwon has never missed the list and Barkley does. During interviews, Mitch Lawrence, Peter Vecsey, Jackie McMullan, Bill Russell(who says Olajuwon is the best defensive center in the last 25 years), Wilt(who said Olajuwon is the best center of his era), Kareem Jabbar, and Jordan have all said Dream was the best. But to say Dream will not be remembered as much as Chuck is not right. Everytime a Chuck highlight comes on, there will be 5 showing how much Dream dominated Chuck during his championship run. Dream had much better overall skills. Personality wise, Chuck won that with no contest. But I don't think that Stockton, Payton, or any other great who is not into making people laugh or saying things to draw attention will not be remembered. Did you forget Larry Bird? If the argument is who was the better player, Dream won EACH AND EVERY TIME. If you go back to 1993, Chuck was not suppose to have that MVP because Dream had a better year. Its just that Chuck was the media darling. When they faced each other and Dream dogged Charles most if not all the time. ------------------ Live Rocketball. Breathe Rocketball. Die with Rocketball.
