Hakeem retires one week from today. With it, the greatest player to ever wear any jersey with the name Houston on it ends his career. It shoudl be ending in a Rockets jersey, but if its got to end, at least it will be in Houston.

I think this should be sort of a remember the Dream week. Post your Hakeem memories here.

Ahhh ..Jay! Good thread. You should have made it into a poll and listed some of Hakeem's all time greatest moments. :D

Every dream shake should be considered a greatest moment. The man handling of shake in the 95 finals. and the last shot against the knicks.

That would have been an awful big poll. But...I'll start:

I had the fortune of attending a large number of playoff games the two years the Rockets won the championship. But in all those games, I still think the one play that defines Hakeems career was his block against Rod Stickland, I believe, when they were playing the Portland Trailblazers in the first round. It was vintage Hakeem. His blocks were always of the tyype to just electrify the whole team and all the fans. There wasn't a shot he didn't think he could swat. And he never gave up. Even as the play was developing and you were cringing on the easy basket, there was still the good feeling way back in your mind that it would be ok, Hakeem would make sure they didn't score, and they didn't. He came flying out of nowhere and set the stage for the championship. You can argue all you want about who the greatest center of all time is, but, imo, Hakeem was, without a doubt, the greatest defensive center - possibly the gretest defensive player to ever put on a basketball jersey.

Favorite moment? Meeting him before his prime in 1991. I met him when I was like 9 years old when he did a autograph session at Dillards in the Galleria. I was a young guy that ONLY routed for Hakeem. Kids in school would pick on me and say Hakeem who? It was all about Jordan to those other guys. I always stuck to the Dream!

Favorite Playoff moment? The 1995 SA Western Conference Finals series. After watching the first 2 games again (thanks ROckets03) its just speachless. Rudy T summed it up best on the Double Clutch Video: "Legendary".

That block of Rod Strickland and the other similar one against K.J. came to my mind right away also.

My fav Hakeem moment was the double overtime loss to Seattle in the 1987 Playoffs. I may not be exact on the stats, but Hakeem had like 50 points, over 20 boards and close to 10 blocks. I vividly remember that game. Out of all the times he took the team on his shoulders and tried to will them to victory, this was the finest example. I think this game was one of his first steps in his march towards greatness.
