Very fast pace, tons of passing, weird seeing no one take the open 3. So fun to see those legendary names put there.. Epic post, thanks.
This game pissed me off in a way. You ask why? John Lucas. What an asset and great fit for this team only to let them down when he was needed most the next year. Anyone else think they beat Celtics in 86' if he is playing?
2020, the year many things change except that Hakeem Olajuwon is by far the greatest Houston Rocket player ever
Well said. While I have nothing to base this opinion on, my hunch is that Ralph doesn't get ejected during game 5, which really impacted the series. I think Lucas being there would have made a difference.
Sam Perkins played good defense on Hakeem. It didn't matter much, Hakeem sure bossed them around in the 2nd half. Lucas had a great game.
Check this out from that game -- it took a lot of sucking to build that team. lol : Ralph Sampson : #1 overall pick 1983 draft Hakeem Olajuwon : #1 overall pick 1984 draft John Lucas : #1 overall pick 1976 draft Rodney McCray : #3 overall pick 1983 draft That's not counting Phil Ford and Lionel Hollins who were high draft picks but weren't big minute guys or stars at that point. Mitch "Andrew's daddy" Wiggins was also a 1st round pick and defensive stud, but wasn't drafted by the Rockets.
It's crazy how involved the crowd seems to be... Dallas has one of the worst crowds in the NBA today, even when they're competitive (along with Houston), and they were cheering 2nd quarter baskets, and booing meaningless fouls like it was June today. This for a pretty average team. Guess it's just another example of how modern ticket prices have affected atmosphere...
Mavs were also 4yrs old at the time so the expansion newness hadn't quite wore off yet, plus they had a young up and coming team too.
