Just got back from the Rockets new arena groundbreaking ceremony and noticed "The Dream" didn't show up. I know he's not a Rocket now, but it would have been nice to see him at least show up and show interest in the new arena. He's been in Houston so long and should be happy about the new arena. Tina Tompson, Janeth Arcain, Sheryl Swoopes, Eddie Griffin, Cuttino Mobley, Rudy T were there (Francis is in college.) They're all excited and will reap the benefits of the new arena.
This just show you were Hakeem's heart is and how little he really cares about the Rockets and City of Houston.
People were making fun of him and saying at the very same time Leslie was breaking ground, he was signing his name on the dotted line with Toronto.
You know what? I hope he did. I don't want that money grubbing SOB anymore anyway.
The Rockets paid him almost $16 million last season to not even play in half the games.
Why offer him three years? There is no way he can play another three season.
He should have retired, but he's a greedy punk. The Rockets are young and fast and don't need him anymore. The Rockets need to get Cato in shape and aquire a center.
Who? You're guess is as good as mine.

Well I didn't expect ALL the Rockets to show up. But Hakeem is an icon in this city and when you think of Rockets, Hakeem comes to mind. I simply don't think of Bullard or Taylor as icons. Those guys are unsigned as well. The people making fun of Hakeem were photogs and such.
Hakeem, if he truely wanted to stay a Rocket, would have shown up. I think today it made a statement that he didn't show up.
Steve Francis is in college this summer so he was busy.

I bet the reality is that Hakeem does not have the balls to show up. He has distant himself from Rudy, Les & the other players, so why would he come out of the closet at this point. What would he say to the other Rockets anyway, "Hi long time no see, do you mind taking a paycut, so I can buy another home while I sit on the IR for the next 1-3 years".

His role with the Rockets, in recent years, has been diminsihed to business and I doubt that he shows any friendship to these guys in the off-season. Today's ceremony is based on the Rockets Futue, which Hakeem is not part of.

    I hate explorer...

I'm currently using the new Netscape 6.1 preview release, and it's leaps and bounds better than the previous Netscape 6.

I still have some problems with it, but I think that's just b/c I'm using a preview version.

Rockets 2001, Netscape 6.0 is working fine for me... but I'm on an old winnt4.0 sp6a setup. I never really felt like debugging win2000 for microsoft when I was a heavy microsoft user... and now my archaic development platform works fine w/ my new setup...

I believe that Hakeem should go to the hall in a Rockets uniform and believe he will even if he plays for another team (then again I thought the same of Nolan Ryan).
But how much more SHOULD the Rockets do for the big guy?
Shouldn't the Rockets do what IS BEST for the future of this team?
I don't believe spending the farm on an older veteran that has already given his best years is worth it just to make good PR.
I think going in another direction and heading into the future with Francis and Griffin show the Rockets fans that once again the Rockets are dedicated to WINNING A CHAMPIONSHIP!!
After all, when it is all said and done, isn't that why they play the game.
I'd rather watch my team get back into the playoffs then stumble again and have Hakeem play half a season again.

hey moe, OT, stop getting in the way of another good opportunity to bash Hakeem! Didn't you read the Chronicle: the Rockets have made a more than generous offer which the cold-hearted Dream has turned down! Good riddance to the worthless old man! Let's get in on the Todd MacCullough sweepstakes!

    It was over 16 million.

I read some crap post on espn.com rockets board about a toronto press conference today? Anyone know anything? Besides the VC deal announced...this guy mentioned it was about Hakeem. What do they know though.

Who was saying he was signing with Toronto? Was it uninformed people like you or was it someone important? [IMG]

When do FAs ever show up at corporate events?

This board is turning into a whine-fest. Your moms weaned you too soon. Relax.

This just in: I had a disagreement w/ my boss once. Sometimes I ask for more money, sometimes more than what I am worth (okay, most of the time). Whoa... things work out usually.

Sheez! I should quit making fun of prozac users.
