First off, this was sent in by grummet, so thanks to him for making this known.
    http://www.clutchcity.net/news.cfm?NewsID=673

Check out Peter Vecsey's New York Post column today.

DON'T be so fast to pencil Hakeem Olajuwon into Rudy Tomjanovich's rotation next season. Agent Dan Fegan may have said all the right things about his client wishing to end his career in Houston, but it's unlikely to happen. Instead, look for the Rockets to arrange an off-season sign-and-trade with the Heat, say sources. If that doesn't materialize, the Lakers and Suns are intensely interested in showcasing The Dream Shake.

Thanks for the info Clutch. How much and for how long do you think the contract for Hakeem would be?

    Good old Peter V

I can't even see how a sign and trade would materialize, unless Grant or Eddie Jones is available, or we had an interest in Mason, both of which I highly doubt.

Why wouldn't they just sign him to their mid level exception? Why would a sane Pat Riley want to sign Hakeem for more than 5 mill?

If Hakeem doesn't want to come back I would gladly take Brian Grant in exchange for him. Of course, that is if we don't sign Webber.

I don't know about that - the guy has a history of injuries and Charlotte exposed him as turnover-prone whenever he's in the post. He's tough and if you had asked me a year ago, I would have sold my sister so that Grant could become a Rocket. But I just don't see him as filling what the Rockets need (rebounder who starts fast breaks with good outlet passing - Grant just doesn't pass). I'd only take him if it meant we could swing a 3-way for Webber (essentially Hakeem to Miami, Grant to Sacramento, and Webber to Rockets with additional players thrown in as the cap dictates).

How would a sign and trade to the Heat solve Houston's biggest need -- at the center position? I really like Grant, but I'd rather go for a FA then take on Grant's salary and lose Mo or have Mo or Grant at center. I don't want Mason. I could see it if it were a 3 way ...

I thought Mourning wanted his girlfriend Ewing there anyway.

Of course Brain Grant. You thought I wanted Brian? Ha!

Seriously though, I hope this isn't true. I really want Hakeem to end his career as a Rocket. Still, adding a guy like Grant to the Rockets would thrill me. He is a tough rebounder and defender, full of heart, and a great guy in the community. I would love for the Rockets to swing a trade for him while keeping Hakeem. I don't think he's very happy in Miami, so maybe they could work something out...

I think Vecsey is just bored or something. There is no big talk going around the league right now, or not big enough for him anyway. I doubt there is anything behind it, just a possibility. It does not worry me in the least bit.

No way miami does this for grant.
They has so many wholes but center isn't one.
Grant for hakeem is way to one sided for us for this to happen.

but I would love it, except for the fact I want hakeem to finish in houston.

Fwiw, this is the second place I've seen Hakeem and LA mentioned together. In David Aldridge's most recent ESPN chat, he mentions LA because of Shaq's admiration for Hakeem and vice versa. They don't share Leonard Armato as an agent anymore like Aldridge says so I don't know how much credibility to give the rest of the info, but it makes more sense to me than a sign and trade with Miami.

Personally I think Grant current play sucks. Ever since Malone punked him in the playoffs 2 years ago, he has not been the same player.
I would rather see the Rockets go after Mason then Grant. An enforcer in the middle of paint who scares opponents from driving in the middle of lane for fear of a punch to the mouth. The Kings showed the Rockets weakness in the paint, and other teams exploited that weakness. Grant is a punk and a wuss, and I hope this rumor doesnt pan out.
Bring on a big man who can rebound, play some hard defense, and knock out some teeth when need be.

A punk and a wuss? I don't know what makes you think that. He has always been a great community person, and is one of the toughest players in the league. 15-10 would be a tremendous lift. Personally, I would prefer Grant over Webber. He does all the dirty work and doesn't demand the superstar status that Webber does. But that is going off topic...

There are many here who know the CB Agreement better than I do, but I am under the impression that the Rockets have to renounce Dreams' contract (among several others) to make a serious run at Webber. If true, then a sign and trade is a moot point...Dream can go wherever he wants for whatever $ he wants without the Rocks getting anything.

Do you even remember that series? The thing that was so memorable about that series is that it was the other way around! Grant, esp. defensively, dominated Malone when he would try to score. In the decisive game 6, Malone had I think 8 points. That was Grant's true breakout series, where he proved he could handle the big boys and was a truly legit PF. I would rather have Antonio Davis than Grant as far as an offseason acquisition goes, but if we can't get Antonio, I'd definitely bring on Grant.

I still remember Grant staring down Malone after a particular good play in that series. Classic...

Grant did have a break out series against Malone two "years" ago in the 1998-1999 playoffs, but the following season (last year) Grant was worked over by Malone (averaged 24 points for the series -- Grant scored about 30 total in the 5 games) fairly good in the Blazers' 4-1 series win ...

If all we do is add that insanely large $90 million Brian Grant contract in exchange for Hakeem, I'm disappointed. He's 15 and 8, but for that money you better get 20 and 10.

    Clutch,

Last year Rasheed Wallace, not Grant, was the starting PF for the Blazers and main defender on Malone. Nevertheless, I agree with you on the contract issue... you do need more for the money. That's why I'd prefer going after Antonio Davis, who would probably come at about 7 mil per season. But we have to get more physical up front and quickly to rise in the Western standings, and if some other options fail Grant is not a bad alternative.

Grant did not hold Malone to 8 points becuase of his subperb defensive effort. And if you watched Grant aggresive edge prior to that elbow, you would definetely recognize he was punked out of his manhood.

Apparently we see two different ballplayers. In my OWN opinion, the Brain Grant you see now is half the ball player he once was.

Did anyone catch the interview of him holding his head down after Charlotte waxed Grant and his Heat, stating "were a beater team, I know we are" or something to that effect (not direct quote.) It was like the guy was talking to himself.

Again, this is my own opinion, but I would rather see someone else in a Rockets uniform who will not cry like a baby after a game he a was responsible in getting blown out.
