And Don't Dare Tell me that this is the Wrong Forum!!
I doubt this web site would be around it Akeem was not drafted by Houston in 1984!!

http://www.sportingnews.com/voices/sean_stewart/20011005.html

the Sporting News Places Hakeem in the Second Tier of Players that Should Get Hall of Fame Entry behind our good friends Stockton, Malone and Barkley!!

This is what I wrote him:

Sean,

This is the Most Horrendous Showing against the Dream that I have seen in quite some time. The dream was the most dominant physical presence in the paint throughout most of his career and topped it off with two championship rings, a year in which he was the MVP, Defensive Player of the Year and Finals MVP and the all-time leader in blocks. Both times to get to the finals Hakeem and his band of Merry All-CBA team (except drexler the second year) had to get through the likes of Barkley and KJ, Stockton AND Malone, Robinson, Drexler and Ewing. If you look at the Bulls numbers against the Rockets in the 90's I feel they competed with them better than anyone. The Hall of Fame should be measured by success and accomplishment, not simply consistensy. Malone is a great steady scorer, rebounder and passer, yet he has never elevated his game in the Playoffs, and more often than not his game gets worse. Stockton is an assist master, thief of the ball and great scorer and made many clutch shots, but even so, if these two were so good why couldn't they beat houston when it was Olajuwon, Elie, Kenny Smith, Otis Thorpe and Vernon Maxwell??? C'mon, Hakeem carried those teams himself and if those two can't do it together why should they be considered more locks to go to the hall of fame. Barkley was a presence and elevated his game for the playoffs, yet even with the support casts he had around him, never reached a championship.
Please reconsider your position of Hakeem as a SURE-FIRE lock for the Hall of Fame.

F.D.
Houston

What do you guys think??

Hey, Khan. The link you posted took me to an article that says Hakeem is in the list of 15 locks.

"Locks

There is absolutely no reason why any of the 15 players listed below should not be in the Hall. "

That fifteen included Hakeem...granted, the guy has Barkley in his top 5 list and Hakeem in his second 5 list, which I don't exactly agree with.

There's no question that Olajuwon will be a lock to the hall of fame. I can't explain why Sean would have Malone and Stockton as well as Barkley ahead of Olajuwon, except for this theory:

Malone and Stockton have proven to be more durable than Hakeem

Barkley was well-known and mostly well-liked by the media

It's one guy, I don't take him seriously. Anybody with half a brain knows he's one of the top players ever, and even though he doesn't get the pub he'll get there. Malone, Barkley, Hakeem, Stockton, they're all getting in the Hall-of-Fame. In fact they're going in at different times since they're likely to retire at different times, so why even bother with that article. As for disrespect running rampant for Hakeem, that's the only article I've ever read that didn't have him a sure lock for the Hall.

While Olajuwon was the greatest Rocket player ever, as of this date he is no longer a member of the Rockets and as such despite protestations to the contrary - Wrong forum.

I disagree.

You've read the description of the Rockets Forum, right?

Hakeem is an ex-Rocket, so I think placing this thread here is fine.

Why hasn't anyone said the Barkley thread is in the wrong forum?

Also I need to say that that is one of the dumbest ****ing articles I've ever read on Sporting News.

Mark Jackson deserves to be in the hall?

Whatever...

Lets face it, Hakeem never was, nor will he ever be, popular.

I don't understand it, and I never will.

Khan, they are talking in terms of yrs egible. With Dreams contract, they are assuming he plays 3yrs while stockton and malone will play only 2 more. It has nothing to do with what kind of players they were while playing. After retirement it takes 5 yrs, thats why Moses is just now going in. At the rate, Hakeem will be egible 2009. while Stocton and Malone will be egible 2008.

So you are basically calling him slow.

Also, it says Tracy Murray, not Hakeem Olajuwan.

That guy is crazy to think Dennis Rodman go's to the hall at all much less a lock. And to say Hakeem Olajuwon's name in the same breathe as Scottie Pippen.

I'm really tired of the "wrong forum" posts. I've asked before: Let me move posts without fanfare, as I do most of the time, rather than have a dogpile of "wrong forum" posts.

Just use your best judgement -- it's not that big of a deal.
