In an interview on 610AM tonight, Dawson said that he's spoken numerous times to Dream and Dream said he felt like with his "medication" that he "could" get into shape this year and be productive. The implication being that Dream is not in shape (no surprise) and that he will try his medication again. Personally, I don't see what the difference will be this year from last unless it's a different med. Also, Dawson said that he's had a meeting with Cato to discuss the importance of his being motivated this year. That Cato has probably shown about 60% of his ability and if he shows the dedication he'll have a great year. He also said he's one of the quickest centers in the league with great shot blocking instincts. He also mentioned Collier and Langhi should surprise a lot of fans. Of course, he also talked about the great backcourt of Francis/Norris/Mobley/Anderson and that there were no minutes left for Drew. Both Drew and the club hated to make the deal (yeah, right) but it's best for both. ------------------ "There's 1,000 different things we're looking at, but there's not a lot of things there." -- Rudy T., apparently after taking a hit of acid.
Thanks Tb. When exactly is Dream gonna get in shape? During the season? If thats the case, I certainly hope he is right about Collier suprising us. I like Cato and all, but I will believe he is improved when I see it. ------------------ In order to be a success in life, you need 2 things: 1. Don't tell everything you know.
In a way this kinda rubs me the wrong way, Hakeem knows this is his last yr. and should try to go with a BANG! if his condition is so bad that he was not able to work out during the offseason what makes him think it will all get better when the season starts ? know what I mean? also, I hope Cato listens up and gets himself motivated and plays like we know he is capable. Obviously CD is at a position to speak about our rookies so I really liked the comment he made, I just hope he is right! ------------------ Life moves pretty fast, If you don't stop and look once in a while you might miss it!! ... He will never have a lot of scoring[mostly put backs] but he is what this group needs. I really believe that we are watching the start this year of the next top defense center in the NBA. ------------------
Hakeem Olajuwon 00/01 season 5 pts per game 4 rebounds per game 4 turnovers per game 1 blocks per game .2 steals per game he was cooked by 98, you all must understand this. ------------------
Hakeem will play 20 minutes a night. He doesnt need to play any longer than that, the guy is old, he cant breathe and basically he doesnt have to do anything anymore because he already did everything he wanted to do in his great career. Let the guy do what he wants to do, if he wants to sit on the bench with the oxygen mask on him and get paid 16 million then let the man do it. ------------------ "You look a team that's been to the mountaintop like the Houston Rockets, I'm going to put pressure on myself to be the best possible player that I can be. With the pieces they already have in place and myself, we can do some amazing things next season." Maurice Taylor
EJ Tucker.....I agree w/ you about Cato...the guy used to dominate games defensively playing at Iowa State....If he just gets his conditioning down I think he'll be able to consistently shut down the lane this season and avg. 3-4 blocks/gm... ------------------
If Dream isn't in shape maybe he could play the T-Ham role this season ------------------ Discombobulation Imminent
Alot of players are dominant in college, so I don't pay too much attention to how good Cato was then. He needs to show up and show something this year. I can't believe Dream is not in shape unless he is having health problems during the off-season. I though he was too proud to just show up for his farewell tour and to get a paycheck. I still think he is having trouble breathing and that is why he isn't in shape. Could be a long season if we have to rely on Collier at all. ------------------
Dawson did make the comment that Cato has put the time in the weightroom this offseason. I'm looking forward to our first glimpse of the new Cato. As well as Steve, who has been reported to have bulked up. ------------------ "There's 1,000 different things we're looking at, but there's not a lot of things there." -- Rudy T., apparently after taking a hit of acid.
Hakeem's shape, I'm sure, has little to do with his desire to be in shape. Its likely a matter of age. He's old. I think his not being in shape will help this team grow. Cato needs minutes at C so that we can get ready for the playoffs. without those minutes Cato may be as lost as he was last year. ------------------ humble, but hungry.
i'm not so sure, considering he starts every season out of shape. you know, i wonder if that was strategy on hakeem's behalf. i mean, every other center in the league, come playoff time, was beat up and tired. hakeem, however, hwas hjust hgetting hstarted. he always peaked in the playoffs. hmmm, have a cold one on me hakeem!
Hakeem was in great shape to start the season last year. He was training with a track coach to develop his conditioning in the offseason. Not only that, but he started the season great until Slowbonis ripped his groin out. It occurred to me that there is a MAJOR difference between this year and last for Hakeem. Last year, Barkley was still on the team and looking for a championship. Hakeem had great respect for Barkley and wanted to give his best effort to get Barkley a championship. Barkley wouldn't have appreciated any lackluster efforts on anyone's part, including Hakeem. I think without Barkley, and any real hope of winning a championship, Hakeem has no one else to play for that's on his level. Who is going to question his effort on this team? Who is going to say they could have won it all if he'd been in better shape? He's playing with kids that can't begin to touch his accomplishments. He's been in wars while these kids are still going through boot camp. The sad part is that it's your LAST impression that remains the longest. Jordan and Drexler understood that. And I don't think Hakeem is concerned with how others view him at this point. He's content. Enthusiasm and winning are contagious, though, and these kids should have their fair share of both. And I, for one, hope Hakeem comes down with an incurrable case. ------------------ "There's 1,000 different things we're looking at, but there's not a lot of things there." -- Rudy T., apparently after taking a hit of acid.
Being in shape has very little to do with his age and a ton to do with Desire. Look at Karl Malone, he is older then Dream, and in WAY better shape. Dream is satisfied, you know it, I know it, and the whole world will soon know it. DaDakota ------------------ All you MO-FO's better stop ripping off my lines !!
Well, Dadakota Malone is not older than Hakeem. They´re both born in ´63. But you´re right Malone is in much better shape than Dream. Maybe Dream is satisfied since he has won 2 rings and Malone knows he has to be in shape to get one. But Jordan won 6 and he was always in great shape. Maybe Dream just doesn´t know his role on this team since he isn´t the leader anymore? Who knows. ------------------
A few years ago, a former Rockets player came into the Medical Center and I had a chance to talk to him briefly. He said that it was pretty much acknowledged (in the locker-room) that Olajuwon was content with his two championships. Tomjanovich came into see one of our specialists on another occassion. Didn't get a chance to talk to him, but he seemed friendly. One of our doctors, who lives next to one of the trainers, said there was little interest from the league for Williams or Rogers. ------------------ Not only have the Drew bashers crossed the line, but they've sprinted a couple of miles beyond it. I'm assuming a lot of u are knicks fas too? (see Ewing) Why is Hakeem staying?? Cause we need him....he has reduced his role, and knows what his role is.....He's doing his best to fit in.....I bet u Rudy and CD would rather have Hakeem stay.....If he just retires, we'll be paying him for nothing.....If he stays, he'll give us a great 16 minutes per game........ It would be so easy for him to retire, but he's thinking about the team....... ------------------
