Hakeem and Les met. Hakeem has been activated and won't start. He would not comment on the meeting and Alexander is expected to address the media later tonight. Olajuwon would not speculate about his future with the team or discuss the meeting. He just said he is playing tonight though not starting. This is VERY tenuous judging by the report and sounds still pretty ugly. If things went well in the meeting, I can't imagine them not wanting to discuss anything right away. The plot thickens... ------------------ Me fail English? That's unpossible.
Thanx for the news. ------------------ "Break off the block like Maurice Green" --- Steve Francis President of the Moochie Norris fan club.

Here's the transcript: -------------------------- Leslie Alexander: Hakeem and I had a very pleasant meeting today; it was very productive. We both want the same thing, which is for the Rockets to get into the playoffs and go far in the playoffs. As we all know, he is the greatest player in the history of the Rockets, and one of the greatest players in the league. He is always about winning and we are going to try to win and get into the playoffs. Everything else that was said, both Hakeem and I consider confidential. We don't want to talk about it. Q: How hard has this been on you as an owner, as you have great respect for him and he's meant a lot to the franchise? LA: Nobody has more respect for Hakeem than I do. I came to the league my first year and I won a championship. Why did I win a championship? I had the greatest player in the league every night, which was Hakeem Olajuwon, who took us right to the championship. He was just phenomenal. Then the second year I owned the team, I had Hakeem Olajuwon again and he led us to another championship. He was the greatest player in the league by far; nobody was even close. Q: Will Hakeem be here for the rest of this year? LA: He's going to be here. Everything else we talked about is confidential. We are going to try to win in the playoffs. Q: Is it safe to say that Hakeem will finish out the season with the Rockets? LA: It is safe to say that my statement speaks for itself. Everything else is confidential. Q: Would you consider this an uncertain time for Hakeem's tenure here? LA: Right now is a certain time for his tenure here. Q: Would you consider this still an open issue whether he finishes the season in a Rockets uniform? LA: Let's put it this way, my statement speaks for itself and everything else we said is confidential. I hate to say it that way, but that's really the way we both want it. Q: Do you think to the fans that sounds like there may be a chance Dream may not finish here? It seems like the door is still open and people want the door closed one way or another. LA: As an owner of a team, you never close the door to any player. That's just not a possibility; that's how the league works. That's all I can really say. Thank you very much. ------------------ NOTHING BUT .NET CLUTCHCITY.NET [This message has been edited by Clutch (edited January 24, 2001).]

All Les said was that Hakeem was going to be "here". Define "here". In Houston? In Texas? In the US? On earth? Hmm.... fishy, fishy, fishy... ------------------ "No Brain Grant, no trade." -- Typos are a b**** as ZRB is holding Rocket trades hostage while he seeks a brain. Conspiracy theorists say this would explain why Hakeem has yet to be traded...
confidentiality on some of the conversation between Hakeem and Les,But botom line,Hakeem is gone after this season ends and no doubt, he'll be back in NBA, But in different jerseys. Fame,Money and living in a great city was'nt enough!Ai'nt that a Bwitch! ------------------ Rudy T. will find and fulfill Rockets destiny.
I think there's something being missed in all of this discussion: Hakeem clearly believes that he can still play and he very much wants to get one last contract and play at least one more year. That being said, the Rockets' cap situation will make it nearly impossible for us to resign him. The point is that, whether he is traded or released or signs somewhere else over the Summer, Hakeem is going to leave. Hakeem is not going to finish his career as a Rocket. Hakeem will go into the Hall of Fame wearing a Rocket jersey and he will have his number retired in the new arena and he will spend the rest of his life in Houston signing autographs at sports card shows. And we will love him for that, just as we always have. But no matter what, Hakeem will be playing for another team this time next year. So, whether he leaves now or later, it really doesn't make much of a difference. I would hope these facts would bring an end to all of this pointless, painful worrying about "the heart of our Houston Rockets." The Rockets were here before Hakeem and they'll still be here after he leaves. The truth is that we, the fans, are the heart of the Houston Rockets. And we're not going anywhere.
Nice post, BDJ. ------------------ "Dream another dream, this dream is over... Dream another dream, this dream is over... Dream another dream..." - from the Van Halen song, "The Dream is Over" (Thank you, Freak). Fitting, isn“t it?
