Has anyone used the hail a cab app? I may have to use it tonight after a new year's party since buses stop running around midnight.
I used it once and took about 10-15 minutes to get ready and I received a call from the driver that he was outside. When I got into the cab, he was mad at me and told me that using the app is just like waving a cab down on the street and not like ordering one by phone. The whole cab ride he continued to stress that you can only use the app if you plan to come outside right away. It was an unpleasant ride and he whined his tip right down the drain.
Hail a Cab is faster than calling for sure. They use GPS and track the closest one to you right away. Only have to wait a few minutes for one. That saying tonight will be a lot harder to get a fast cab as they will all be pretty busy.
I swear, Taxi drivers have to be the most customer unfriendly group of workers in America. I am a pretty generous tipper (I used to wait tables). In other words, you really have to work to screw up your tip from me. Time after time, cabbies manage to screw it up by b****ing about the most inane things. They also often look for ways to cheat/scam passengers out of money.
One time some friends and I grabbed a cab in Austin. Somehow it came up that we are Rockets fans and the cabbie spent the rest of the trip saying how terrible Hakeem is, that he is not a real Muslim and everyone in his home country hates him (I think the cabbie was from the same country as Hakeem). I found this bewildering to say the least. Needless to say we did not tip. Not really related to hail a cab app, just thought I'd share.
AAA is offering free tows up to 10 miles tonight. http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=news/local&id=7194935
Funny story. I took this girl home one night from a bar, then she made Me take her and her car to her house afterwords. She lived with her parents and after I dropped her off I couldn't get any buddies to come pick me up. I tried to use the app but couldn't figure it out.... Ended up her father took my home at like 4 in the morning. He didn't look happy.
Lol she left her ID in my wallet, and well it's been 5 months and I still have it. The one that got away.
Don't use the app. Just call. This is maybe the biggest night of the year for cabbies, and they're going to be in no mood to wait for your ass, especially if they have to drive out of their most lucrative territory to come get you. As a customer, it sucks ass, but there's no changing it now, so do yourself a favor and set an appointment ahead of time. It will be a load off your mind and you'll be better able to manage your time/drinking all evening.
You'll wait for a long time for a cab tonight. You should always use a town car service over a cab, anyways, but whatever
ehh sounds to natzi-ish for me. my worst taxi cab confession moment was when I had a fight with the ex early in the 4am. I'm waiting for it with my Pjs and my hair looking like goku. He arrives, I give him the address all is fine. Suddenly, on the highway he pulls over and makes me sit with him in the front and show him that I had money for the trip. when I got home, I asked him for his Taxi number, name and that I would be calling dispatch. He offered to take half the fare off, but it was a pride thing by then. damn taxi drivers not all of them go above and beyond like travis bickle
Do you have to tip the AAA driver? I was wondering if I should bring some $$$ with me. I'd be that ***hole who doesn't tip when it is customary.
Agreed...as does Austin. Just used it in SoCal recently and ended up driving through a check point. That $25 ride saved me at lease $20k in Cali DWI expenses.
Just hailed a cab from the app. On our way to toyota center. It took about 3 minutes for a cab to show up. I bet that will change as the night goes on.
Was an epic fail tonight I made a booking from Hyatt but I got kicked out of the app and hopped in a cab with some random people. Bad night to test it though.
