I'll be there, dancing show numbers and practice comp with at least two girls. The top amatuer and pro dancers will put on a good show. http://www.jccaa.org/HaihwaDance/ You might be interested : also performing is the rockets ball boy - Brent Bourbon. He's the Filipino guy with glasses you see on tv hanging nearby with a towel in timeouts. His sister works in media relations. Really cool young guy! He's also a badass dancer, and at the top level in the local amatuer latin competitions with his partner, Melissa Blanco. They're very dynamic and work like crazy on getting great impact in their dancing. I'd also say Mellissa is very sexy, if she weren't so young - but she is, so I didn't notice. There will be enough very attractive dancers around safe to notice, anyway. The Chinese dancing community that puts these things on is an interesting group. They put a lot of time and money into dance, and making these show events. There are, of course, a lot of middle aged ladies and gents, because that's who has or makes time and money to learn and chase that hobby. Any other subcultures that have a lot of dance? Is hip-hop the popular dance form of the last generation? I missed it. Seems like, since the death of disco, there hasn't really been a popular form of opposite-sex socializing partner dance. Maybe salsa. Or the stand in place and wobble dance at "dance clubs". . Any other? Oh yeah, I'll also be teaching Samba this Sun at UH for the social dance club, with Salsa before. That's a great club for learning dance - lots of different cultures, all mixing - real cheap. here's info on the club at UH : the yahoo message board : http://groups.yahoo.com/group/uh-ballroom/ and oficial site : (seems to be down) Social Dance Club at UH Official Website of the club http://www.uh.edu/~uhdance/
As one of those white dudes who can't dance for crap, I hate you Seriously, sounds like a great time. I really do wish I could dance, but I've become comfortable wiht my lack of skill in that area. I hope you kick ass.
