this is kinda-sorta related to the "How to be a Musical Snob" thread that somebody started a couple of weeks ago. after getting my ipod a month ago, a lot of my coworkers have been impressed with it. they would come around to my desk and ask to take a look at it. some of them have mp3 players of their own. anyway, when they asked to look at mine, i was kind of reluctant because of some of the songs that i'm embarrassed to have on it. i have a folder hidden inside of a another folder, hidden inside of another folder, hidden inside of another folder, hidden inside of another folder that i have labeled "wuss tunes". i think it's appropriate, but they're still good songs. here are five of the songs that i'm embarrassed of that are on my ipod: 1. Cyndi Lauper- Goonies Are Good Enough, Time After Time 2. Sara McLachlan- Adia 3. George Michael- Careless Whisper, Father Figure 4. Jewel- You Were Meant For Me 5. When in Rome- The Promise pretty wussy, huh? does this make me not cool? soooooo, my question is what are five songs on that you like or that are on your mp3 player that you would be completely humiliated if someone found out that you like and sing the lyrics to while in the shower?
Oh yeah, lets all undermine each other's taste in music. That is a good idea OS. I have a ton of pieces by Yanni that people will make fun of me for
Nancy Sinatra - You Only Live Twice Sara Evans - I Could Not Ask For More (reminds me of my daughter) John Osorio & Randy Borden - Hawaiian Eyes (very hippy-ish 70's Hawaiian music) Til Tuesday - Voices Carry Howard Jones - Like To Get To Know You Well
it's not that they're the only songs that i have on my ipod. i have radiohead, wu tang clan, the pharcyde, NIN, and other stuff too. just thought that some of the lamest stuff that i have is pretty cool too. yanni? who the heck is that? i guess anybody who listens to somebody like this... ... deserves to be made fun of. kidding.
I listen to all sorts of supposed "wussy music." like that song called "True" and to those who object, F' em... to quote a typical ending to a phone call on the Rome show....war Phil Collins...war Supertramps....war Spandeu Ballet....and war Chris Deburgh
Hey now. Don't knock Yanni. His music isn't for everyone. But the guy is talented. If anyone likes classical/theater style music, then they probably like Yanni.
I openly listen to my old Wham CD's and I'm damn proud of it. Sure people laugh, but who cares? Everyone was a Wham fan once, whether they are willing to acknowledge it or not. I just kept on lovin' it.
okay now... you have to follow the rules people. name five songs that you're embarrassed that you listen to... so that we can all make fun of each other. was kidding about yanni, codell. the guy looks like a long haired version of the guy from train.
The guys I work out with at lunchtime always make fun of me for listening to this one radio station that plays '80s songs from noon to 1. I don't care because I grew up listening to that music. "Tarzan Boy" by Baltimora is one of my all-time favorites from that era and probably the biggest song to fit OS's description of a "wuss tune".
I don't really get embarrassed about my music but I guess I do have some songs on a few mixed CDs that I won't play in certain company.. Sade - By Your Side (is that the title?) Nelly Furtado - I'm Like A Bird I guess those are the only 2 that I'll skip if I'm with my manly friends... I'm one of the only people I know that actually admit to liking Oasis. Don't get me wrong, they are no Coldplay or Radiohead, but they have 4-5 good songs on each record, imo..
No offense dude, but Yanni to classical music is like Kenny G to jazz. Or Cats to a Wagner opera. Here are some CD's I keep in my closed top drawer at work: Edie Brickell-Shooting Rubberbands at the Stars Crowded House-Recurring Dream Level 42-Level Best Sade-The Best Of Metallica-Master of Puppets (not wuss but people at work may get the wrong idea)
lol... furtado isn't too bad. anyone who does remixes with timberland (turn off the light) and missy elliot (get your freak on) is cool.
Is that that song that goes "I'm like a bird, ill only fly away. I don't know where my home is, I don't know where my soul is" or something like that???
Sorry codell, I had to do just one: codell: Music? Joe Mayo: Actually, can you keep an eye on the aquarium and make sure nobody taps on the glass? codell: But I could do that and the music. Joe Mayo: Oh, no, don't worry about the music. Just... have fun! codell: I was ready to get jiggy with it.
That's the one.. She's not that bad. I'm just usually not into a lot of pop music and the popular bands I like are U2, Radiohead, Coldplay, Sublime, etc.. Not exactly teeny bop pop and I guess I feel like Furtado fits in the latter category. The rest of that CD has some other pop songs too, but not ones I'd be embarrassed to admit to liking.. i.e. Weezer - Island in the Sun, Sweater Song, Madonna - Hey Mr. DJ, Outkast - Ms. Jackson, Fresh N' Clean...
Shes probably not that bad, I just have bad memories of that song. The only reason I remember the words to the song is, not because I like it, but because about 2-3 years ago, when that song first came out, the wife and I were on the road for 5-6 hours driving down to McAllen and that song was played on every radio station we turned to. We must have heard that song at least 8-10 times that day. It was like it was chasing us!
Guilty pleasures currently on my ipod: "Sex (I'm a ...)" -- Berlin "Head Over Heels" -- The Go-Go's "Canned Heat" -- Jamiroquai "Crazy Cool" -- Paula Abdul "Boom! There She Was" -- Scritti Politti "2 Become 1" -- Spice Girls
