...But sources have told SportsLine.com that the deal collapsed Monday night when the Pistons backed out of the deal, because they did not want to assume four of the players' contracts...

There were a lot of uncertainties all day, and it looks like one of them may have finally surfaced.

Sonics and Knicks don't need the Pistons. Salaries for Baker, Stepania, Foster, and Maxwell equal Ewings.

Yeah, unfortunately the 4 way deal may be dead, but the 2 way may still go ahead...

    Gater,

No it doesn't. Baker is a BYC player. His trade value is around 4.5M. Him and those 3 don't even come close to Ewing. And I don't see why the Knicks would want about 10 extra contracts, and who's to say they even want the deal without Rice?

    Cat,

    A quote from Saturday's NBAtalk:

"The Knicks like Vin Baker and seem willing to swap Ewing for Baker. However there is a considerable salary difference between the two and Baker is still a 75% base year player. At least two or three more players (try a combo of Ruben Patterson, Greg Foster, Lazaro Borrell, Emmanuel Davis or Vernon Maxwell for example) would have to go into this deal to make it work."

As for all the contracts, the Knicks are *way* over the cap so what's a few million more. I still think the Knicks and Sonics can do it without a 3rd or 4th team.

The Cat: I think that was upgraded to about 7 million like 3 days ago, at least according to the Seattle Times. The deal still can't go through though. NYC isn't going to take that deal without Rice... they need trade bait to acquire a new C if they deal Ewing.

Does this mean we have a new chance for Taylor (I'm assuming this is Falk, and not Taylor, acting the jerk)?

Gater: That may be true, but the Knicks need trade bait to land a center, which would be either Rice or Houston. Ruben Patterson and change isn't going to land them anyone decent.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! THE CARNAGE OF MO FO TAYLOR THREADS IS TO CONTINUE?!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

All references to Mo Fo are the intellectual property of DaDakota when used in referenced to the Pippenesque Maurice Taylor.

All instances of multiple punctuation marks are used for the express purpose of pissing HeyPartner off

DoD: Come on... you know in your heart you want Mo Taylor just as badly as anybody else [IMG].

I mean, sure this drama is quickly becoming annoying, but he could be the difference between Houston being a contender in the near future... and a lotto team.

This is great news. The Mo Taylor pursuit may be back on. I've had this quirky feeling all day that this deal would not go through. There was just too many teams, players, and monster salaries. It was just too much to keep all parties happy. Great news for us, too bad for Seattle. Bring on the Mo Taylor threads.

    Oh yeah!
If we get Mo Fo (intellectual rights to DaDakota) then we'll definitely win the championship next year!!!!!!!!!!!! (credit for using multiple punctuation marks are also intellectual property of DoD)

I still think the trade will go through [IMG] But IF somehow we do get Mo he'll definitely be an upgrade over whatever we have.. doesn't hurt to give him a 1 year deal at $2.25 and we can always tell him "NO" when he asks for the max!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (credit DoD for intellectualisation of punctuation again)

"he could be the difference between Houston being a contender in the near future... and a lotto team"

Only if he starts rebounding. C'mon, guys, how many scorers does a team need? One thing we are NOT short on is scorers. True, it could only help to have another significant scoring threat on the floor with Franchise, Cat, Wizard, but... What we need is a true banger - someone who isn't afraid to get trampled (more to the point - someone who's too powerful to get trampled in the first place), someone who will REBOUND! That's where we were deficient last season.

I'm a bit ambivalent - and I think justly - about Taylor's rebounding desire (tho I think the ability is there).

That said, if I were CD I'd still grab him tomorrow for the 1-year deal if he's still available.

Sure I think the guy's an improvement, but dammit, I'd be a hypocrite if I wanted him and hated Pipsqueak.

Ok, so I would like to have the guy here... big deal... at least I'm stickin' to my principles

Hmm... heh... I remember hating Sir Charles before he became a Rocket (anyone else remember when he injured Drexler?)... and loving the guy's boisterous personality after he became a Rocket.

I don't think of myself as a hypocrite, or abandoning principle, so much as just being stupidly loyal [IMG].

Didn't the Rockets/Grizz/Majic have the largest trade ever? And this one was suppose to exceed that one? At least one record is retained!
