I don't know how to help you stop it, but if you find out who it is I suggest you find him and shoot him in the face.

    What is your internet connection?
Are you using dial-up or high speed?
    Are you using a router?
Are you connected by a network?
What operating system are you using?
What kind of firewall are you using, if any?

Before doing anything else, change every password on the system and make sure the new password is a combination of number and letters. Check your settings and make sure that you're the only administrator account on your box.

I don't really know enough about hacking or programming to really help you. I was just throwing out some common vulnerablilties that I know of. But definitely change all of your passwords.

ok, if you are on dialup, I can tell you that this mau be a friend toying with you.
Most real hackers(technically they are called crackers) dont bother with ppl that are on dialups...they are looking for broadband connections to use and control.

do you spend alot of time on IRC? or are you on AOL?
there are many different ways to jack with ppl like you describe....did you download a file that you dont know for sure where it came from?..it could have had a trojan in it.

Update your virus definitions and run a scan.

I agree with Rockets2K. Dial-ups are a waste of time for hackers but here are a few countermeasure tools you can use just in case. http://www.hackingexposed.com/tools/tools.html

And i dont know what friend of mine would be toying with me, in the chat rooms my name is server, so my friend said it might be for using me as another server but i have dial up so he wouldnt understand why it would want to do that.

It really doesn't matter what your name is in chatrooms, any one that can read a set of instructions can trace your IP and access any vulnerabilities that your machine may have.

That is the reason for the firewall, it helps keep ppl from getting thru the many holes that your machine has.

Read very carefully all the documentation that comes with ZoneAlarm, go to the website and read thru all their help docs to help you understand what you are doing..

The lock/unlock shuts down your internet connection at the push of a single button...it is used to cut off all internet communication from your box.

there is alot to know to use it, read the stuff...you will be better off in the long run.

Was reading some of the stuff, and from what i see its if i hit this lock button it cuts me off from sites and other stuff unless i put it as a list of programs that "ok" to pass. If i hit the stop button, then it doesnt let anything go down at all i guess? this sound familiar R2K?

Yea, though I must admit I dont use it anymore, so it's been a while.

When you use an application(web browser, IRC client, etc) for the first time after installing ZA, it will ask you if you want to allow it to access the internet, if you started a program and you recobnize the name, click yes to allow it, and dont forget to check the box that tells ZA to always allow it to access..

BTW, you need to scan your system from a anti-virus boot disk and make sure you dont have anything on your system. It wont do any good to protect yourself if one of your apps have been comprimised from a trojan.
