What are you're thoughts? Garnett, Kobe, McGrady, Griffin, L. James, O'Neil, etc... How long will their careers last? Does the wear and tear of the NBA grind put a cap on the length of time one can play (15 years, average!). Or, is it aged based (38-40 years old). If a kid comes in at 18, does that mean that he will have four extra years in the league compared to a four-year college draft pick that was 22/23? As history tells us, bigger players (PF and Centers) seem to be able to relegate themselves to supporting roles late in their 30's. Guards and forwards, who depended on their quickness more, seem to fade faster. Stockton and Malone seem to be exceptions, rather than the rule. Jordan took 3 years off. So, I'm not sure he's a good example. So, what you think?
I am not sure about the career length. But I figure that their prime might come and end earlier. In the past, I think normal basketball players' prime was around 28-32. But nowadays those highschool to NBA players' prime might be around 25-30.
Kobe was calling himself an old man the other day when talking about his jumper's knee. I hope he was being facetious and I just missed it.
I was thinking about this the other day. So far there isn't much to go by prior to KG. Shawn Kemp came in early, I believe from Community College, started out strong, then seemed to lose interest. I'm thinking a guy like Kobe who already has some rings might not stick around a long time unless he wants to set some records. Now KG and TMac and others, might depend on wether they can win a championship or not.
