The nation's top Division I-A returning statistical leader in virtually every passing category, Kolb enters his final season with the Cougars having started 36 straight games. Kolb has thrown for 9,155 yards and accumulated 9,752 yards of total offense in his career. He was named the C-USA Third Team in 2005, when he led the Cougars to the Fort Worth Bowl. Kolb also was selected to the preseason First-Team, and was joined on the squad by senior wide receiver Vincent Marshall and junior tackle SirVincent Rogers, as well as senior linebacker Wade Koehl. A First-Team, All-C-USA selection as a wide receiver and a Third-Team pick as a punt returner, Marshall starts the 2006 season on a 36-game reception streak, and like Kolb, is the nation's #1 career returning leader in receptions (192) and yards (2,791). The Kolb-to-Marshall connection is the best returning passing-receiving tandem in Division I-A. As for Rogers and Koehl, both were Third-Team, All-League picks last season. Joining Kolb in the preseason awards is senior wide receiver Biren Ealy, who was named the Conference USA Offensive Newcomer of the Year. A transfer from the University of Arizona, Ealy is expected to provide Kolb with another offensive weapon this season. Finally, Kolb was named by the magazine as the No. 9 quarterback in the nation, while Marshall was picked No. 19 at wide receiver.
I actually think the Coogs can win C-USA this year. With the exception of the Miami game our no game on our schedule looks unwinnable. Course with that schedule we could probably go 11-1 and barely be in the top 20.
I have to take exception with the whole Cougar High thing. UH gets a bad rap because it's a commuter school.Whether it's physics, business,or whatever, the University of Houston is an underrated academic institution. With multiple Final Four appearances,Cotton Bowls,Golf titles,NCAA tournament baseball teams, and track titles,UH has a rich sports history. And if you hadn't noticed,we are on the rise again. The quality of UH Alumni speaks for itself. So,while we might not be a UT or A&M,there is much about our university to be proud of.
As far as Cougar football,I don't think we'll ever get back to where we were in the 70's(we ARE getting much better though),but the basketball program is rising like the Phoenix out of the ashes...great recruiting classes on the way.The key with all sports is getting guys to stay home and it's happening. On Kolb....the line will be better, and he'll have plenty of weapons. The defense will be much improved....I can see him putting up big numbers and UH going 7-4,with as good a chance as anybody of winning conference.
i was just playing around...that was one of my final choices for school because my cousin went there, for select majors it is a very good education, and a lot of my family is from the houston area. i'll always root for UH as long as they aren't playing Texas State. as far as going 11-1, it is possible with that schedule but unfortunately it still won't get you very far. i think oklahoma state and UTEP could be losses as well.
It's copacetic. Yeah,CUSA football isn't ever going to have the class of,say... the 70's SWC Coogs. Those were top 10 contending teams loaded with talent...competing in the big bad SWC. The present day Coogs should be in the running for the CUSA title every year though.Like I said, they just need to get enough guys to stay home...esp. on the lines. 7-4
Kolb is still there but I expect him to be in the pros next year...he should have a stellar year and gain recognition... I can't remember where, but I remember seeing Kolb as a top 100 player for next years draft... go Coogs...
