everyone is so obsessed with our offense lately. and today, we actually played well offensively statistically

    49% shooting, 42% from 3s, 97 pts

why did we lose to the lowly grizz?

    defense SUCKED: they shot 51%
rebounding SUCKED: those midgets outrebounded us 37-33

we need to go back to our bread and butter: defense and rebounding.

we'll score as the season goes along b/c we are too talented offensively. but these guys just don't have the discipline like we did last year (or under JVG).

teams don't fear us on the defensive end anymore.

I definitely wouldn't call a team with three 7 footers to be midgets. They're much bigger than us. But our defense was horrid.

what we need is a consistent line up.

Every time we change the Lineup/rotation our defense suffers.

Guy are not use to be in the same lineup and get confuse on rotation and coverage.

It was a point where Yao went to help double a player and nobody rotate to his man when he made wide open shoot.

Battier can't play much minutes and Yao is on a -+30 minutes a game an Artest out.

We just out of sync. Once the rotation get set(health) for a long period of time we will play much better defensibly and offensively.

Can not agree more, I have noticed the bad defensive performance since this season started. Maybe it is because we are constantly changing starting lineups. But anyhow we have to get down to the fundamentals now.

    The defensive effort was terrible.

But Memphis isn't exactly a bunch of midgets. They're pretty big plus they have some athletes...(Warrick/Gay/Mayo) those kind of teams always hurt us.

But seriously, they aren't that good. We should have been able to win but oh well. It's done. Gotta focus on Atlanta now.

We need better communication on the defensive end, and I think that will come over time. The players just need more time to adjust to the different lineups. I think we will eventually have defensive consistency.

    Hopefully. :D

I hate to say it but the trade is coming where we are going to lose a few of our guys to get some dominant rebounders on this team. That last few minutes of that game where Memphis got 3 or 4 possessions on miss after miss was freaking rediculous. We couldn't buy a rebound.

I agree, we didn't lose it because offense. Maybe we didn't have Tracy, Artest and the poressure on Yao was too big but come on. I know our only offensive threat was Yao and we couldn't give him the ball (because of fronting) but it is not the case.

I don't care if we don't have Ron and Tracy, we have to beat Memphis and teams like them (struggling) even without that duo if we wanna call ourselfes a contenders.

It can't be like last nigh. We can't let Memphis get 20 point lead on us, it is just ridiculous. We need to put those teams away early.

May, they BLEW OUT our asses 2 straight times. Are you kidding me? Memhpis Grizzlies? We sure have a problem.

We lost because of defense. WE PLAYED NO DEFENSE. I mean look, Memphis (before that game) was averaging something like 93 points per game which is horrible. And we, 2nd best defensive team in the leauge, team who can stop anybody from scoring, let them score 109. Something should be wrong, right? They were shooting over 52% from the field, I ask WHERE IS THE DEFENSE?

I think we have a problem, the last two games our defense has completly dissapeared. We haven't play it at all. Just look, guys are getting to the basket finishing with easy layups. Wait a minute, I tought we are the best team in locking down the pain, not allowing opponents score there. But maybe I was wrong, just don't know.

Is Hayes a really good defender? Really. He sucked BADLY. He, Scola, Landry got totally OWNED by Warrick. Yeah, Hakim Warrick.

And a 7'6 guys getting owned on the glass by Warrick, Milicic. 4 rebounds? PATHETIC.

Yea, but when your 7'6 all star center can only grab 3 or 4 rebounds for the entire game, its sad.

Bad defensive game for sure, but I don't think it says anything about our team. No Artest for one. Being able to go big in the back court really helps rebounding and defense.

    fundamentals of an NBA player:

    1. healthy and suited up
    2. Play with effort
    3. player can jump and run.
    4. defense
    5. shooting.

we need to focus on fundamental 1,2,3 before we go back to fundamental 4.

yes they were. but if you played consistent defense and rebound the ball, you'll ALWAYS be in games.

we were never really into this ball game to begin with. sure we made a rally, but let's be real.

A little defense and hustle would help.

A few more healthy and willing bodies would be nice.

    Very good post,

With Gundy we could play and shoot horrible, and still win games.......because of our consistent defense.
